Hey All,

Looking for some advice.
so I got a parking ticket on a rental in illinois.
the rental was not an illinois license plate. However the ticket issuer put in illinois in the state section.

Should I even bother to contest/pay the ticket.

If they put it down as an Illinois plate and did not have a photo backup to go back on to later correct it, don't bother. They will be looking in their database for a plate and vehicle that does not exist. Many if not all jurisdictions to include even UT Parking use photos to justify tickets. I don't know if they can go back to the photo and correct the license plate to a different state if they wrote it and stuck it with something else.

I'd probably ignore it... I got a parking ticket a couple of years ago when I was parked LEGALLY. At first I was quite livid about finding a parking ticket on my legally parked car's windshield until I noticed they wrote my license plate number down wrong (they left out a digit). I haven't heard anything about it since.

I know the court will try to fine the rental company and if they have you on record as renting that car, the fine will transfer to you and you will get receive a letter from the court stating that. With the wrong state on the ticket that probably will never happen though.

I know they may drop it due to the mistake, but if they don't, it can be a big pain in the ***, so you might just go ahead and pay it. They harass you for years. I sold a car and the guy didn't change the title to his name, then sold it to someone else. Somebody got a parking ticket in Dallas, and they kept after me for years, I wrote letters answering every one of theirs, but they kept threatening me with heinous legal acts, so I finally gave in and paid the ********.
