Parking in West Campus

So, I'm going to live in the Quarters apartment complex on 22nd and Rio Grande and I really don't want to pay $120 a month to park in a garage a block away from my apartment.

So, do you guys have any other ideas as to where I can park? I'm thinking about just parking my car on the sides of the streets around west campus. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks for any advice!

you will get towed. at some point. and when you do, if you want to exact revenge, call me. i'm sure i can muster old feelings for those low-life vultures.

Tough call. Once school starts you'll have a hard time finding something on the street. And even if you do find a spot, you'll spend a lot of time driving around looking for one, and who knows if it'll be any closer to your apartment.

I don't mean to **** on your idea, but I spent a semester without a parking spot and it was difficult. Especially after a trip to HEB, having to carry groceries a couple of blocks because there wasn't an open spot near my room. I did realize that the "15 minute zones" weren't enforced very well, so I got away with a number of days parked in one of those...but it was just the luck of the draw.

If you're able to park your car for days on end, it could work. At that time I had a job so I was moving my car around daily...and it was a pain.

$120 a month is ******* ridiculous though, so I don't blame you one bit for not wanting to pay. Hope it works out.

I just remembered something....have you looked into the University Baptist Church's parking lot? I doubt it's $120 a month, and it's about a block away from 22nd and Rio Grande. If you want the peace of mind of having a parking spot, keep them in mind. After my semester of no parking spot, I got one from them and it worked out well.

Parking gets scarcer with each passing semester as it seems that virtually every street in West Campus is under construction. Towing rates were raised last year so towers are as vigilant as ever. You might be able to get a spot at Dobie, but otherwise you might just have to suck it up.

My g/f used to live at 2300 leon and there was usually parking there along leon which is a long street so give it a try.

That and like type suggestions used to be great and hidden from the masses. But there are already a couple of thousand more students in that area than just a few years ago and there are a couple to few more in the next couple of years. These complexes are not putting enough parking to cover the amount of units in the structures going up. Not even close.

The spots on the street are vanishing quickly and they were already scarce at best. It is going to get worse, somehow.

Suck it up and pay for your parking because as mentioned above, you are almost for sure going to get towed sometime or another. That or your car gets stolen or broken into. In that area, even if you don't have stuff showing some crackhead will smash your window. Some Frat guy will piss on your car or somebody will graffiti it. This has been sort of a growing issue there over the last couple of months per a cop I spoke to the other day. They think/hope it is HS or Jr. High kids who will cease when school starts for them. This type of summer crime happens from this demo.

WC was a great area at one time and intended for people to be close enough to walk to campus and not need a car. But tons have them. Way too many.

You may find times when you literally waste hours in a week looking for parking that you hope is legal if there is even anything open. You will get angry and pissy. Is it worth it?

Pay the almost 400 bucks for your complex. But...ask and hopefully they will give an honest answer, how many passes or permits they will sell. If it is a guaranteed spot that nobody else can park in, it is worth it.

But if it is just a spot in the garage, first come, first serve, you may be screwed. There will be times, if they oversell them which they will if they can, that you cannot even find a spot even though you paid for one. Somebody double parks, you park next to them, they leave and you look like the jackass who parked like a douche. Can you say keyed car maybe from some drunk person? Just a random scenario that happens there sometimes. We hear lots of stories and goings on from students. I would hate to live there.

Thanks for the responses guys, I think I'm just going to park at my friend's (he doesn't have a car) apartment uncovered parking lot. It's only $25/month and a few blocks away.

That is very cool of your friend. You should buy him a six pack of beer (and help him drink it) as a monthly surcharge.
