Parking advice

I'm coming down for the Iowa State game from the dreaded "north". I'm bringing a fellow Longhorn fan who has never been to DKR. I need some parking advice.

The last time I was able to get there, I ended up parking on a side street quite a ways east of I-35. By the time I got back to my car, I felt very alone.

I would like to park nearer to the stadium in a garage or lot (My knees aren't what they used to be), or take the shuttle.

I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

Hey T, free parking can be had but you'll hike a bit and need to arrive 2 hours early. I parked in Federal parking down San Jacinto, past the Foundation parking garages for years before got a parking pass with season tics.
You can also check on 'Swap shop' for parking passes, they have them posted with/without tickets often. If don't see put in a request on the site, but don't expect them to be free.
Hope game turns out so that you picked a good one.

Probably the closest you can get will be two very small University owned lots at 26th & San Jacinto (West side of Waller Creek). They go early so you need to arrive around 5 or so to get in. The one on the northwest corner is the larger of the two.

I believe that the angle in parking on 26th between San Jacinto and Robert Dedman (formerly Red River) is first come first serve.

Since the parking rates in the state-owned lots went from $7 to $15 to now $20, I have taken to street parking. I never have a problem finding metered spaces (on the side streets south of MLK and west of Guadalupe) all the way up until gametime. The meters are in effect until 6PM so the parking fee is usually around $3 for afternoon games and free for night games. It is a bit of a hike to DKR but it's safe and walking through the tailgating lots is a great way to get fired up for the game. Hope y'all have a great time!

If you're coming from the North, just park North, you'll skip a lot of the traffic. You can park on the sides of the street around Harris & Hampton just W of Red River, or just across I-35 off Dean Keaton, basically at 28th & Dancy. Either way, no fee, ~15 minute walk. And other fans will be parked in the area as well.

St Davis garage on 30th is a pretty short walk and the day only costs me about $7. The walk from the Harris & Hampton is a little longer but not bad.

Don't park by the cemetery behind Denny's. I had my windshield busted out with a huge rock still sitting in the front seat when I got there. A year or two earlier I seen about four cars parked in a row that was broken into with their windows bashed in. Yes I did not learn my lesson from them. I just thought it was an isolated incident.
