so i'm looking for a cheap hostel/hotel. i want to pay extra and stay in a clean and safe hotel (like maybe $160 / night) inside the blvd peripherique. however the rest of my family doesn't want to so we're looking for a hostel.

any recommendations on what areas to avoid b/c they're unsafe? i'd like to stay around the les halles area but i've heard different opinions about the safety of that area.

any cheap hostels anyone's stayed at they can recommend?

thanks.

Why don’t you rent an apartment? It is cheaper, more flexible, better appointed and gets you out into the city. We stayed at the place listed below and loved it. 3 minutes from the Hotel de Ville Metro. 7 minutes from Notre Dame. We are going to Buenos Aires next month and are renting an apartment as well.

Good Lord!!! $160 per night??? Jesus Christ!!

I stayed in places that were $8-$15 per night in Paris (when I went in 87, 98, and 02). I met some good friends there and had good times.

The hostels I stayed in were plenty "clean and safe."

Try the Tim Hotel chain.
Several locations, 3 star.
Or the Hotel Opera Cadet, great little boutique close to gar de nord.

For that price, you have several options. What are your needs and interests? We staying near Moufftard for less than $100/night in a very nice apartment last week. The apartment was not big, but just right for me and my wife. Good part of town, lots or restaurants, easy access to anywhere, away from tourists yet close to action, and a wonderful price. Part of it was time of year, and part was the size of the apartment. However, there are numerous places in nice areas for $160 per night.
