I am on my way to Paris this afternoon. I told the lady that was cutting my hair this morning that I would rather be headed to Houston. She laughed because she thought I was kidding. I wasn't.
Don't be too hard on yourself. Missing a Rice game once in a blue moon isn't a tragedy.
We've missed very few UT football games -- home, away or bowl games in 14 years. I think the number is four.
One of those was the Rice game in 2005. On September 7, 2005, we flew to Lexington, KY and visited friends in Cincinnati until the Ohio State game on September 10. We watched as Limas Sweed caught that TD right in front of us. Great game -- even if the fans there were among the worst.
The next morning, we drove to Chicago, dropped off the rental car and flew to London. After London, Edinburgh, Paris, Normandy, and then London again, we flew back to St. Louis on September 29th to catch the Texas/Missouri game on October 1 in Columbia. We flew back to Austin on Sunday, October 2nd.
As a result of that trip, we missed the Rice game on September 17, and then took advantage of a bye week. Now, we would have not forgiven ourselves if we had missed that Missouri game, and we certainly don't make a point of missing any games, but missing an occasional Rice game isn't a life-changing event.
That said, we'll be in our seats early at Reliant on Saturday. We'll yell real loud for you.
I've been to Paris,
And I don't mean Texas.
Well, I met Wim Wenders
One time in London
...
On down that highway,
Turn up that dirt road.
It's over three days
Since I left Houston.
Ol' Black's my truck's name.
She's held together
By BF Good tires
And bailing wire.
I took my wife to Paris for her 50th birthday, and I can guarantee she wouldn't have apprecieated it if I'd taken here to Houston instead. Of course, Texas wasn't playing in Houston that day... So that might have made a difference, but I doubt it.
i'm all for school pride and all, but we're talking rice here.
gimme a week in paris and i wouldn't even be upset if the dvr didn't work. bullzak's right
