Paris Apartments?

I am considering moving to Paris for a year. I would like to live in one of the central arrondissements to be in walking distance with as much as possible. I will likely be studying at a school so I may be able to take advantage of student housing. Does anyone have advice on how to obtain an "affordable" studio, 1 br apt, or apt share arrangement? I am monitoring Craigslist with hopes of avoiding brokers fees and excessive paperwork, however I realize the French are big into red tape. My budget is about $1,000 a month but would prefer to pay less of course. I don't need anything big or fancy, just a quiet place to eat and sleep.

Ask the school about student housing. Paris is expensive. The only way it would work is if you were in a suburb such as Jouy in Josas (where HEC is located).

Walking distance would be great but with the Metro you can get around so quickly that I would think you could broaden your search a bit.

A friend of mine is Parisian and has owns an apartment she sublets when she is in the states. She is about to get her Master's here at UT and may be working in Houston. Do you want me to ask her about hers and about housing there?

Give me, via pm, more details.
