what's the going cost? I have a couple of rooms that I just don't have time to paint and wasn't sure where to look. Any suggestions would be helpful. Any idea on cost? Thanks in advance.

I am a teacher and another teacher friend of mine and I paint houses during the summer. We like to think we bid lower than most crews (except maybe the some of the sprayers...we brush and roll everything). Anyway, we charge roughly $250 per room for interior for the average size bedroom and maybe a little more for large rooms. It also depends on what else is being done. If it is just one room, we will charge more. If it is the entire house, then we tend to stick to that price if not a little less. But never less than $200 for a room. This is usually without ceilings too.

For exterior, we charge about $600 a day based on how many days we think it will take to paint. Most average to above average sized two-story house (front brick, upper sides and back - wood) we charge around $1500 to $1800.

Ballrific,

If you dont have a lot of oddities (holes in the walls, deep stains, etc) in the walls and the rooms are not loaded down with furniture, the going rate is about $1.80 to $1.95 a sq ft of living space. This includes ceilings and walls. If you want crown molding and door trim painted, or each room is a separate color or if any walls involve deep colors (several coats needed), then the price will increase.

10 x 12 room = 120 sq ft x $1.85 = $222.00.

Hope this helps.

why do professionals need to put on "several" coats of a deep color and i only need 1 or 2?

but the price sounded about right, which is what you wanted in the first place.
