painting shower tile?

I was watching a show of HGTV a few nights ago which showed a lady painting over shower tiles with melamine paint. Anyone ever tried that (or otherwise successfully painted over shower tiles)?

We didn't do it ourselves, but before we bought our house, the previous owner had a company call Gnu Tub come out and paint it. It has stood up fairly well except for one spot where my wife knocked the blinds down and the end of the blinds gouged the paint. But that spot hasn't spread.

What's wrong with just tile? in my experience, anytime you cover something with paint you are setting yourself up for permanent maintenance.

The tile in the shower is 1971 puke green. I'm looking for a quick and inexpensive way to change the look without re-tiling.

Ttake a huge leap of faith, spend a little money and some worth-while work and effort: re-tile yourself.

I've only seen paint on a run-down house for sale that badly needed remodeling. It looks, well, white-trash-ish. Sorry to be so blunt.
