page2 diss on barnes

Good Lord. Even Barnes probably would admit that he's not the best X-and-O guy out there, but Floyd has shown over the years that he is outstanding.

He took eventual champ UCLA to OT in the S16 back in '95 with a 6-2 PF.

It is truly amazing that some of these hacks can make such uninformed statements. Your peers say you did the best job in the conference this season, but if your team wins it won't be because of you. Solid logic.

To be fair, once Rick talked Connor out of taking the NBA money and coming to Texas, you knew this was where we would end up.

Uh.....first of all, it is only b/c of Coach Barnes that we have the sort of talent that can even stay on the same floor with the likes of Kansas, UCLA, Tennessee.

Secondly, maybe you could have claimed talent over coaching last year when we had Durant. But, few thought that we'd be anywhere close to where we are this year without him. Got to give coaching some credit there.

Thirdly and most importantly, this guy is an idiot.

Circular reasoning at its finest.

Barnes is not a good coach, ergo if Texas does well it's in spite of the coaching.

Brilliant.

Whenever people rag on Mack or Barnes (or even Greg Davis), saying they aren't good coaches, I tell them that I judge coaches solely by results and ask who has produced more. Sometimes they name a handful of names, but usually they just shut up after that.

If you look at Tim Keown's archives, you will see that he has written just one other column about college basketball this year--a thing about how Bobby Knight made the game more interesting. The last article he wrote about college basketball last year was a piece claiming Ohio State had Oden and nothing and it was a complete coaching failure by Matta that tOSU guards didn't just heave the ball into the vicinity of the rim every time down the floor, so Oden would grab 75% of the shots/passes/whatevers and dunk them.

Maybe he writes a bunch about college basketball for ESPN the Magazine, but I wouldn't know about that.

I usually really like Keown, but that was double stupid -- Tim Floyd has also done a great coaching job this season.

Fishing is very good this time of year and this guy knows it. Stir up the muck, cast your net and see much notoriety you can catch.

that guy is plain out of step with 99.9999999999% of the collegiate sports community -- his comments are not even close to being founded.

not even.

Well actually he's right coaches don't win or lose ballgames. They prepare players the best that they can and it's up to the ones on the court to either win or lose it..
