P. Terry's is growing on me that's for sure. I don't think it has supassed Dirty's yet. I rarely go to either. There are 5-6 better burger joints in Austin.
Heard a lot of good things about P. Terrys and must try soon. Dirtys is awesome, but it took a bit of a hit when they started cleaning the grills semi-often and stopped making the patties in the thrown on the griddle from a ball of meat grabbed from the bin method. I think that may be code related. Dans double meat double cheese is seriously kick ***, Hilbert's homestyle is awesome too, but Top Notch may just rule all in the city. Any burger place with a brick chimney coming from the middle of the roof, and when you step inside the cook is dumping a huge bag of Kingsford into the pit, on the inside of the restaraunt, well that is per se awesome.
Have not had a P. Terry's, but I do know that Dirty's is living on their reputation. I ate there a few years out of school and wondered why I used to think they were so good.
Hard to beat Top Notch for the reasons listed above.
p.terry's sucks big time. i'm sorry...but i went a while back and the burgers were small, overcooked, over-priced, and very plain. the fries were atrocious...very soggy and mealy. dirty's burgers are small too, but at least they taste good. i'd go to freaking whataburger before i went back to p.terry's.
P. Terry's fries are indeed awful. I got 3 orders for 4 people and I bet we threw away 2/3 of what I bought.
The first time I went I was surprised how small my burger was, so I ordered a double the next time. Yeah, it was twice as big, but I learned that two small, overcooked hamburgers are not a good substitute for one properly-cooked hamburger of decent proportions. Surprise.
No burger joint discussion is complete without the mention of Morris Williams Golf Course. Just go try them ... on topic, I haven't eaten at Dirty's in years, but PTerry was average at best. The comments on this thread are accurate - small burgers, overcooked, greasy fries (but good). However, I must say that the chocolate milkshake might have been top-3 in the city. Real chocolate syrup, excellent ice cream product - overall solid shake.
Tried PTerrys for lunch today. I opened the wrapper and thought "is this some sort of joke." Tiny, and the cheese was not molten at atll, just laid on there like it had just been taken out of the Kraft Singles cellophane wrapper 30 seconds earlier. I think my friend said it well: "its better than McDonalds."
If you wanna talk golf course burgers, the burgers out at Delaware Springs in Burnet are amazing. Big and juicy, with fresh toppings. Awesome. Plus the course is very enjoyable, love a 1 hr roadie for some good cheap golf and fantastic cheap burgers.
never heard of p. terrys until this thread. driving around at lunch on south lamar, i saw it and decided to pick up a burger. got the double cheeseburger. it was alright. the bun was burned on the inside. not a fan of that.
