A tangent from the "Things You'd Never Do" thread...
A poster mentioned that he doesn't wear jerseys, as an adult male. I happen to agree with this rule, particularly as it pertains to football and basketball jerseys. I first heard the rule touted by Major Applewhite during his brief radio career, and I have embraced it ever since.
I do, however, acknowledge that jerseys are acceptable for children and attractive women. I likewise acknowledge certain jersey exceptions for men, such as wearing traditional, button-up baseball jerseys and hockey jerseys at games.
As an axiom to the "No-Jerseys-for-Grown-Men" rule, I would submit for consideration an "Over-Gear" prohibition. By "over-gear," I mean the simultaneous wearing of more than one (1) item of team paraphernalia in a social setting. For example, wearing a UT cap and a UT t-shirt or sweatshirt at the same time in a context other than a UT sporting event.
I would very much suggest an exception for attending actual sporting events, although I might suggest a maximum of two (2) or three (3) items even for such events.
Flagrant offenders of the "over-gear" rule include Aggies, Sooners, Hogs, and (perhaps worst of all), Vols. I have seen a Vols fan, nowhere near a Tennessee sporting event, simultaneously wearing a Tenneessee hat, shirt, sweat pants, and socks. He even managed to get white tennis shoes with a piss-orange logo, though the shoes didn't actually bear a Tennessee logo.
Thoughts?
