Outstanding Offers

We have 12 verbals but Rivals shows these four as having offers but have not committed.

Christian Westerman, OL, AZ. This is one that may be a long term one and is one that we would probably wait on.

Malcolm Brown, RB, Cibolo Steel. This may be another one you wait for.

Cedrick Reed, DE, Cleveland.

Nathan Hughes, DE, Klein Oak

Please post your opinions and news you have on the above and others. The thing is at 12 we are filling up fast and I am sure we want 2 more OL, 1 or 2 RBs, and probably a DB and LB. The thing also is that those that really want to be in the Longhorn Family better make up their minds and verbal very soon. Time and space is short.

looks like we have more than just those four offers. almost everyone that came to day got an offer. you're missing a big one in green, who definitely was offered.

westerman will take his visits.. NU and probably UF. leaning our ways, but you never know with OOS.
brown will take some time, but i think we'll eventually land him in the next few months, perhaps sooner.
hughes should be a lock. i'm frankly surprised he didn't commit today.
reed should be a lean, but you have to understand he's going to take some time to take his visits. he may project at DT, and given our depth at both DE and DT, he'll be waiting on the depth chart.

maybe it's not so bad to have the DEs slow play us, as we still can get a chance to go for Rasco, who is better than both of these guys.

I am not sure on who else was offered, but this is what I think:

Christian Westerman, we'll have to wait on him, he'll take his visits, but its good to see that we are on him at the least.
Cedric Reed, from everything I've read, he is a UT lean, he should commit sometime soon after taking some visits.
Malcolm Brown, is also a UT lean, we'll have to wait on him, but he will end up a 'horn.
Nathan Hughes, a huge UT lean, will commit soon.
Sedrick Flowers, I feel will be a 'horn after visits.

I got some of my name from Rivals but I still feel like they aren't cofirmed completely until Clendon and Inside Texas has them listed.

looks like hughes was not offered, and this explains why he didn't commit as widely expected. suppose we're thinking rasco and reed or bust. lots of possibilities.. even a guy like wallace could be spun to de.

Colt they are evaluating players right now. I don't know if Reed will get an offer but it looks like they are very well filled at DE so unfortunately there may not be room for him since OL and other positions are more critical now. I understand Coach Will wants him.

BIS.. from my understanding both Rasco and Reed received offers. we ill take at least 1 DE this year guaranteed. hopefully it's Rasco (I think Reed will end up a DT). frankly, the coaches are doing with the DL what they should be with the OL. realizing the scholarship numbers, offering the top end guys first, and keep in contact with the next tier guys that really want to commit.

"O looks like they'll take the first top 100 guy to commit."

Totally disagree with this. The OL commits are very very solid. They were all on our take board from the start. Each have tremendous upside (let's face it, they are juniors in high school right now). Great frames and project very well with their skill level too.

no question that the OL commits are solid. They are all within the top 10 OL guys in the state. overall, it's a weaker year for OL in the state. we're not on Greanlea's radar, (or perhaps vice versa). if you look at our traditional 'look in state first' policy, we've done very well. however, our glaring problems on OL the last couple of year, as well as the thin class from last year numbers wise, makes getting an OOS stud incredibly important.

Colt according to Rivals at this time we have offered Aaron Green, RB from San Antonio and Jermauria Rasco, DE, from Shreveport, LA.and Marquis Anderson, DT, Cibolo Steel

Of all positions, to me, OL is the hardest to predict success, especially looking at 16-17 year olds. I like our take so far as these guys, as I said before, project very, very well. I'm not buying into the "down year for offensive linemen" just yet. IMO, it's way too early to make that assessment.

Lastly, I'm not fully in the camp that our OL has been that bad. For me, we have been a pass first team. It's simply our scheme and we coach and recruit linemen that excel at pass blocking. Now, the 2005 group was truly outstanding, but the guys since, including last season, have won a LOT of games. In fact, they were within an ill timed injury to Colt of capturing yet, another national title. Just saying. We are a little hard on the OL, and some is warranted, but a lot of it is not, imo.

our ol has not been good. and it's due to attrition primarily. j'marcus webb should have been a starting left tackle for years. thus, ulatoski should have been the starting right tackle and hix would be warming the bench. burnette was an idiot, forcing hall to play center. we lost watts, but i don't think it's as big of a loss as some have stated. nadar could have been a multi year starter as well.

tanner was always a reach, and hall was a last minute signing. the concern last year was that we only took 2 guys.. and no tackles. the concern this year is that we mass offered several 2nd tier guys without considering the remote possibility that we could get all of the top options.

that said, i think we're doing fine so far. we are extremely unlikely to get all of the big 3 ol we're looking at. my guess... flowers 75%, westerman 60%, hegarty 15%. we take 2 of those guys, and this has been a total success for OL recruiting. we MISS on 2 of those guys, it will have been an okay class for such a cruicial OL year. we MISS on all 3, and it has been a failure.

Colt a very goo take on OL problems. The lack of numbers the last few years has not helped also.

Losing five seniors in the OL hurts lowering chances to redshirt incoming prospects.

Losing five and already low on numbers IMO Mack needs to take a minium of six and seven would not be too many at OL.

I think, concerning OL recruiting, when all is said and done, Flowers comes our way, Westerman is no better than fifty/fifty, and nobody else is on the radar, unless we strike out otherwise and warm up to Drango. I'm a little bit worried that we didn't offer the Klein Oak kid on defense, because I'm not convinced that we're gonna get either of our two targeted DE's. Hughes would have accepted in a heartbeat, and he's UT good, even if he's not Reed.
