Long story....

I have added a new hard drive and installed the operating system on the new drive. The 2nd hard drive (former primary) still has the old operating system on it and my old e-mail messages.

I've successfully imported the address book, but I can't find the old mail.

Any ideas how I can find the path to the old mail messages.

Outlook express has it's own unique way of saving fliles. They have a .dbx extension. Usually they can be found in a folder like this: C:Documents and Settings< user - name > Local SettingsApplication DataIdentities{2E97D07A-1942-41B9-AC15-ACFB29EDA504}MicrosoftOutlook Express

You can import the files directly from the file menu, just find the right folder to import from.
Do a google search for "outlook express import messages" and you'll see many more detailed explanations.

blacklab is close, but I'm still screwed.

I'm getting an import error message that telling me there are no messages there (not true) or that the file is in use (possible, but how to make it "not in use").

F it...its bedtime.

If there are any late night technoids out there, I hope you can help.

Do a file search on your old drive for *.dbx. Scan the results for files that have a date of the last time you used OE, and note the path.

When importing messages, make sure you choose the option of importing from a store directory rather than an identity. Point to the path that you noted above as your store directory.

nickedeemus and idig...you guys are great. I located the files via your combined suggestions. I have no idea why I couldn't get them by searching for *.dbx files but....when I did a search for inbox.dbx...BINGO, found them.

nick - the guy who runs the DBxtract site inadvertently gave away the keys to the store. There's a hint in his "sales" pitch that led the way.
