Outdoor TVs

I'm looking at putting a TV on my back porch so I can watch while I'm relaxing in my pool. Are there any quality "outdoor" TVs? It would in a covered location, but living in Houston there would definitely be moisture. Special connectors, covers, etc. will probably be important.

Are there outdoor TV mounts that you can close up the TV to protect it from the moisture..I'm thinking along the lines of bars with outside TVs on decks, etc.

Finally, because the TV would be located immediately outside of the main doorway to the porch, I'm leaning towards a flat panel TV, and definitely a TV that reduces glare.

Any info would be appreciated.

You have to keep it sheltered from rain above, first of all. I bought a cheap, 19" TV from Wal-Mart by the name of Optimus and a swivel wall mount from Lowe's and mounted it on the outside wall under the overhang of my back patio. When I'm done watching it, I swivel it completely under the overhang in case it rains. I have not had any issues by it being outside. No circuitry problems or connector corrosion - and I had this thing mounted outside in Clear Lake for a year. I think you should be fine whatever brand you choose, but my advice is to go cheap in case it DOES crap out or get stolen. It's now been three years for my cheapie and I have had no problems with it or my satellite receiver which is mounted on it as well outside.

I have an el cheapo (read: at least 15 years old) 19 on our patio. Its under the cover all the time and it's Phoenix so no real rain issues. I just put it out there a few months ago.

However, if it does fry from a storm, I would just rpelace it with a $69 model from Walgreens or something. Almost disposable now.

I would put the cheapest one out there you can and replace it if it get ruined.

just get you a projector and find a nice big wall, then you have a big screen for the evening when you want to watch a movie.

I haven't seen a good outdoor TV, but I've seen some good weatherproof boxes for the TV to sit in. The Fox & Hound has them on their rooftop bar
