Golloway (OU's head coach, right?) was ejected for arguing an interference call against ou. Later that inning, another ou player was ejected for something, maybe his slide into second base or saying something he shouldn't have.
there is a limit on how high up the barrel you can have pine tar, that's what the ring is for. Augie noticed buechele's bat was not within the rules and brought up the issue. they looked up the rule to be sure, it used to be that the player would be ruled out, but now the bat is simply deemed illegal and ejections are issued if it's used again from that moment forward.
also, the coach's ejection and J. Johnson's ejection happened after separate plays. Coach got tossed after the bizarre interference call, Johnson got thrown the next play for talking ****, which was started by Tucker and i believe Harughty following the controversial slide
Are you sure it was pine tar, and not an illegal bat? The bats have to be the approved models, the "deadened" aluminum which simulates the action of wood bats.
Whichever it was, some sneaky OU ********** tried to run with the bat back into the dressing room so the umpires wouldn't be able to inspect it, which is what you would expect of a bunch of sorry, lowlife cheaters, living up to their "sooner" heritage.
The coach was ejected on a later play where the OU runner was ruled out when running from second to third, and apparently the batted ball bounced off his heel. It took a weird hop, but it wasn't obvious that it hit the runner, but that's what the umpire ruled. So the runner was out for interfering with a batted ball.
Then the hard slide, with spikes up, which would have resulted in the player sliding being called out had the third out not already been called, ended up in a near bench-clearing fight, but only resulted in one OU player being ejected, I guess it was for colorful use of the vernacular.
All that made for a fired-up crowd, and made the sweep even sweeter. A perfect result for the weekend!
Accurate.....not so much in your recollection of the events in Game 1.
1. The interference call was AFTER Torres booted the ball....into the OU runner.
2. The slide was a hard, clean slide into 2nd...NOT spikes up....and Tucker/Johnson exchanged words.....Tucker had every right to be a little fired up...and Johnson was tossed for dropping the "f" bomb.
3. The "sneaky **********" somehow forgot to get rid of the bat....since Buechele used it the rest of the series. Augie brought up the pine tar issue....the bat was inspected....and met with the umps approval.
And yes, that sweep had to have been that much sweeter for the Horns considering all of those events. Congrats.
1) I'm almost certain this wasn't the case, as the fielder was behind the runner in the basepath.
2) The OU slider hit UT's second baseman with the flat bottom of each shoe, one low by the ankle, the other at least knee high. If you meant he didn't slide out of the basepath to get him, that would be correct, but it certainly looked like an attempt to injure the fielder, and the play was not remotely close. He was out by a mile.
3) Where was the OU striped shirt wearing batboy going, and why did a UT cop stop him from going where he was going-why else did the UT cop go into the OU dugout during the illegal bat discussion? Wasn't it to get the bat before OU hid or disposed of the evidence?
Not at all. He may have been going off what was said by the OU radio announcers (I don't know what they said happened). Or, that might simply have been his personal observation without followup.
The ball was indeed "live"....after Torres booted/mishandled it. I am not questioning that the ball contacted Ellison. The call was blown when blue didn't acknowledge that the initial Torres contact makes the interference call incorrect. Blue either didn't see Torres contact or didn't acknowledge it.
The idea that "out by a mile" means that the play at second wasn't close is crazy. No question that Johnson was out, though. Again, Johnson wasn't thrown out for a dirty slide. That isn't the first hard slide that Tucker has seen in his career.....and won't be the last. It was a good play by Loy and Tucker to end the inning. I saw Johnson's knee up....not spikes...but to each his own. Tucker gave JJ a piece of his mind (which is why I like Tucker) and JJ took the bait...got tossed...and got to watch the rest of the butt kicking.
Believe what you want on the bat....it was used for the rest of the Buechele's AB's during the series.....despite the crack work by the CSI UT cop.
Regarding the bat, whatever. It's not worth arguing
As for the interference call, that is plain and simple. The ruling was the batted ball hit the runner. If you feel Torres touched it first and it was a bad call, that's your decision. For some reason you felt the need to dispute AH's post on that which was accurate according to the ruling on the field.
I actually agree with most of what you are saying about the slide into 2nd. It was a hard slide that Tucker (or any 2nd baseman) had a right to grouse about. The ejected player was tossed for verbiage, not for actions on the field.
Re: the slide. My seat is directly behind first base. It was clear that the intent of the runner was to injure Tucker. The runner's leg was very high and actually hit Tucker in the knee/thigh. Tucker's back was to the runner preventing him to avoid the slide. It was the 3rd out of the inning so no need to break up a double play. The intent was SO obvious.
Did Craig Way confirm that the bat was the issue? Some fans in our area thought the issue was OU trying to steal signs.
Finally, JDubya, your team is not very good. You have no pitching and average defense. Your offense does not play as a team, but as individuals. Your 3rd base coach on one occasion. did not move, in hopes of preventing Cole Green to catch a popup.
To summarize, OU Sucks. BTW, why don't you call the BCS officials and perhaps they can crunch the numbers from the box scores and you will come out ahead.
My point of contention with accurate had to do with the "spkes up" slide comment. I know what the ruling on the field was on the interference call. I thought it was a horrible call based on the reasons I outlined earlier.
Ultimately, none of it matters......scoreboard rules. Horns 3, Sooners nil.
Torre....apparently your seats were so good that you can read minds from them because it was SO obvious. Apparently the ump didn't see the obviously dirty slide....perhaps he missed that call too?
Wow...ok, then I guess the series sweep wasn't that impressive after all. I will stop being impressed with UT's squad since they didn't do much this weekend.
BCS? Cute. You might go through and check out my thoughts on that matter when it happened before you make a comment that has nothing to do with the matter at hand.
Sour grapes? I have given it up to UT all over this board after the series win and I have NEVER stated that the call in question cost OU the game.
some of the sliding action from the OU player could have had to do with the slick field turf... OU players looked like they were on a slip and slide out there this weekend.
