Our Volleyball MB Sara Hattis to join our WBB Team

She is a freshman and will play on our WBB Team immediately. She will be returning to volleyball next season for us. I didn't know if I should put this in this forum or WBB forum but this is remarkable that she can do two sports and keep her grades up. Well Done Sara and best of luck to you and your WBB teammates!

An interesting side effect of this news, which I was surprised to first see as a linked article while looking at bowl game stories on espn.com this weekend, is that Sarah may now have been moved off the VB schollie counter list onto the WBB schollie counter list. The NCAA has a sport hierarchy list, on which WBB is on a higher tier than WVB, and the rules generally say that dual sport participants must be counted against the limit of the higher tier sport. At Texas in 2012-2013, VB schollies are fully claimed, but WBB reportedly has one that is unclaimed. So Sarah's decision to play WBB perhaps opens up an opportunity for WVB to add an additional scholarship player without giving anything away.

That would be awesome. And the rule makes sense as there has to be something to keep basketball and especially football teams from enrolling guys in less prestigious sports to free up scholarships.
