They have 16 competitors in the 2008 NCAA Championship Tournament. We have a chance to bring home the gold. It would be great for them to bring it home and get off that 47 number mark and soon get it to the fifties. Go Horns!

Auburn's strength is really in the relays where they have the top ranked time in 3 of 5 events going into the meet. That said they are not projected to finish top three in the team competition. The top teams on paper are Texas, Stanford and Arizona. Based on Psyche Sheets Auburn should finish 4th or 5th, though if everything goes right for them they may do a little better than this.

The top 16 finishers in each event score points....the Horns have a total of 21 top 16 placements according to Psyche Sheets...Stanford matches us with 21 also, though we have more top 8 placements than they do. Arizona is close behind with 17, though they are a little stronger than us in the relays (on paper anyway). We should also score some points in Diving. While Auburn does have some impressive sprinters and relay times, they only have 13 top 16 placements going into the meet...probably not enough to compete for the championship unless they totally dominate all relays (their 800 meter squad is their weakest, ranked 8th in country) and some other teams suffer disqualifications etc.

On paper it looks like it may be a close meet but if the Psyche sheets hold up and there aren't too many surprises, the Horns will win.

I agree Auburn has some great relays and no question they are strong in the sprints, but overall the Horns have a lot more presence in the individual events. If you look at the Psyche Sheets there are a lot of events without a single Auburn entry in the top 16. Of course anything can happen at the NCAA meet...let's hope the Horns bring home another National Championship!

More good news is that three of our divers have qualified. Hopefully they can add some needed points in the NCAA championship game but divings scares me in that it is so subjective.
