Our Best Class Under Mack?

Texas currently has 9 of Scout's top hundred with legitimate interest from 7 others:

M.Brown, Green, Sims, Turner, Wallace (not so sure about him), Hegarty, Russell.

If we get one of the running backs, Turner, and either Hegarty or Russell, does this become our best class ever under Mack?

It certainly would have more top 100 players on it than I remember.

What do you think our odds are with each of the above players?

I like last year's class. This class is great too. Stringing together multiple highly rated and well diversified classes will pay dividends.

Depends on how you interpet " the best " class. If you mean as far as rankings once this class is signed yes but as far as results that can't be determined for at least 3 or 4 years.

some pretty smart people say it doesn't make any sense to look at a class by itself. much better to look at two or even three in a row.

that said, i've been an avid recruit junkie for a long time -- before any of the so-called gurus hung out their shingles -- and i don't think i've ever seen us bring in a two-year group like these two.

the 'wooster' bunch stuck out, and the group headlined by lawrence sampleton and a host of others. vince's class was stellar. but for a two-year stretch, i've never seen anything like it.

Agree with Glenn.

This is like the USC classes of a few years ago except they are almost all from Texas and therefore less likely to be homesick, plus they are largely not character issues or grade risks.

This certainly Macks best back to back classes. Last years class had 7 of the top 8 and 14 of the top 20 (on Inside Texas) which is fractionally better than the projected class for this year as of now. It seems like the 2002 (or '99) class had 12? Rivals top 100. Most of which never had an impactfor various reasons....

Its all very impressive none the less. Definitely making the statement that Texas is the place to be if your a top-tier player.

Hook'em!

yeah, but you never know where the career ending injury will come. Or the grade problems. Can only judge after the fact.

Seems like we all said last year's class might be one of the best ever for Mack. And then there was the 09 class before it with Gilbert, Okafor, Walters, etc.

I would probably put this current class behind both of those right now. It doesn't have a bell cow QB to hang your hat on. It is easily the best Ol class out of the 3 but is lacking at the skill position right now. 10 had the best WR class ever. This year we could land a big name RB yet and that would help but I would still say that puts it behind the 09 and 10 classes. **** we had one of the best classes ever last year before Mack pulled in 2 five stars recruits right about signing day.

02 class was amazing. However there was a ton of attrition and if you reevaluate it years later it loses some luster. We really won't know about the 09, 10, or 11 classes for a few years. But right now they have the potential to be as good or better....each one of them. That is saying something.

It's been said many times before by many fans here, but I was at UT in the late 80's and if you were never a fan during the lean times you have no idea how good things are now. The Texas football program could not possibly be in better shape than it is today.

Even after the heartbreaking loss to Alabama, I couldn't help but think: we're here. This is what you want, to be one of the best teams and competing for titles. The fact that we were even in that game, for the second time in five years, is just so cool.

If Brown commits I think this is the best class. Plus you have to figure there are a few more commits at other positions regardless.

If Brown pulls the trigger for us, I can't see us taking more than 1-2 more. Maybe none if Mack can't get the 1or2 he's targeting now...

I'm not much of a recruitnik, but my guess is it is going to be extremely difficult for any class to outdo the 2002 group--in projected or actual value.

The 2002 class as great is as mythical as the unicorn.

About half of that class disappeared.

That class was greater than other classes because it won the NC in a very strong year and it had VY.

These last two classes still have the opportunity to win the NC or even two or three in the next few years. I will be surprised if we do not get at least one.

his best class was his first. and his first recruit was Ricky fuckin Williams.

Without Ricky, there is no Chris/Cory. Without Chris/Cory, there is no VY.

Ricky was in the class of '95.

Brown's first class at UT was '98.

I think he is referencing that the first player Brown tried to get to "commit" was Ricky. Remember, he was a Junior and more than capable of going first round in the draft.
