Why does OU grab players like this?

Maybe I'm naive, but I don't think they have to go after guys that have that kind of demonstrated character issue.

The Land thieves and character challenged players are kind of like biscuits and gravy. They just go togethor

stoops and company know him from recruiting him and feel like he deserves a second chance. there was a pre-existing relationship.

Okay, we all know...

OU SUCKS

But, not knowing the character of the young man why shouldn't he get to play at Oklahoma. 19 or 20 year old kid gets kicked off LSU's team and suddenly he is not worthy of any consideration. These posts that immediately condemn a kid for life for offenses that "violate team rules" are pathetic. Stoops is giving a kid a chance that he recruited out of high school. I am no fan of Oklahoma (see above) but good grief you are kidding yourself you you don't think "character issues" have plagued UT recruits and players as much as any program in the country.

If it was a bad attitude that is one thing, but Les wouldn't have kicked him off for that alone. It wasn't marijuana either. Keep guessing but keep it off the board.

Sarcasm noted, but until we kick Oklahoma's *** with as much regularity as they do ours over the past 7 or 8 years, crying over who got a player from another program is chicken ****. If we have the better coach and team, we will win more often than not. I wish the kid luck and...

OU SUCKS

No, taking players that were kicked out of one school and that have no reason to be in school just because they have athletic potential and can help your team is chickenshit. Helping the kid with intervention would be heroic.

I don't have a problem with Stoops taking this kid. But he'll have to sit for a year and can't play until 09. They lose 5 senior OL after 08 so taking this kid is like taking a JUCO IMO. And they have taken a few JUCO OL the last few years. It does only add to their % of recruits taking at the OL position though.

I do think though that we are seeing Stoops taking a few more gambles in recruiting. Maybe it'll work out for him and maybe it won't. We'll see.

i couldn't help but chuckle when i read that jones was filling the vacant scholarship left by a guy who had been kicked off the ou team. jarboe must have really screwed up--if it is easier to get kicked off the team at lsu, that is saying something.

It's o.k. with me if Big Game Bob feels like giving the legally challenged a 2nd chance. If he thinks he can change a tiger's stripes, then more power to him. If the kid does well, that's GRRREAT! If his whole program goes on an extended crime spree causing the good folks of Norman to circle their houses, then so be it.

The idiots that push UT coaches to recruit Texas recruits almost exclusively are a huge reason we are behind OU in recruiting. We have to make a much bigger move in recruiting nationally if we ever hope to be like USC. OU has to deal with being in Norman but they overcome this by recruiting nationally and cherry picking Texas. this crap about us getting the best Texas players because the Texas high school coaches like that we recruit Texas is BS. We rarely get the 5 stars from Texas in the last few years. The high school coaches have absolutely no loyalty to UT unless they went there.

starchild, Jones is replacing the scholly left vacant by Britt Mitchell, who left OU to go to UTEP. Why would we replace a wideout with a lineman? Jarboe's departure led to the offer (and subsequent committment) of Jaz Reynolds, who attends Aldine Eisenhower. He happens to be the teammate of Craig Loston and Greg Timmons.

True, many Texas high school coaches have no loyalty to UT or to the state. This mystifies me, at least as far as the latter is concerned. I have never figured out why any kid from Texas, with all it has to offer, would go up there to school anyway. If one on occasion should graduate, he has to come to Texas to find a job. Odd.

Many recruits have a great weekend and do not realize they have done everything they can do in that crappy town in that one weekend. If you have not spent time in a city like Austin, you have no clue what you are missing. Norman seems fun compared to Boogerville.

Stoops seems to make a big push for the top Texas kids every two years, settling for mid-range prospects in the odd years. Funny thing is, the mid-range prospects seem to have panned out better for him than a lot of the top-rated Texas talent he's recruited.

Isn't Norman an exurb of OKC? Or has OKC become a cosmopolitan oasis of wealth and sophistication since Toby Keith became mayor?

Just because this is his second school doesn't mean it's his second chance. Lord only knows how many chances he had at LSU. It takes a lot for Les Miles to kick a player off the team.
