Not that this guy is earth shattering or anything although he probably is pretty good if this small of school is being recruited for a D1 player but, the reason I post this is because it's a video we normally don't see these days.

The kid plays 8 man football.
Project OLB.

Any of you guys play small ball in HS?
Does Texas have 8 man or only 6 man still?

8 man

Looks like he has a lot of upside. I just hope he isn't playing with Loston, Brent, etc. in a couple of years. That would be the suck.

It's early but we are in pretty good w/ Loston.
He is a cousin of former OU player, Brodney Poole. As is Shepard.

Love to have the guy in the trenches that plays in front of Loston too.

I played 8 man in high school for one year and OCS out in Edmond. Very fun game for a defensive end. You basically just have three down lineman, sometimes four if there is a TE.

i haven't seen 6 man in action. how do they lineup? I assume 2 guards, a center, a QB, a RB, a WR? or 2 RB's.

I thought 8 man is pushing it, but 6 man is really pushing it.

I played 6-man football in west Texas. Regarding the alignment, the rule is that you have to have at least 3 men on the line of scrimmage. One of those is obviously your center and you can have 2 ends, 2 wide outs, or a combination of both. Most teams will go with a 2 back set, but some opt to go with 1 back and another wideout.

Other rules that are different in the 6-man game is that every player is an eligible reciever (even the center). Also, the QB must make an exchange (either a handoff or pitch) before he can advance the ball beyond the line of scrimmage. Basically no QB sneaks, ect. The field is 80 yards by 40 yards and the PAT kick is worth 2 points while a running/passing for the PAT is only worth 1 point. First downs are 15 yards instead of 10.

The basic gist of 6-man ball is that speed kills. Lots of open field, and a missed tackle usually means a TD. Probably much the same in 8-man.

While this kid looks like a great player, one thing to consider is that sometimes the competition level is not so good. A good athlete in the 6 or 8 man game may just be another guy if he were to bump up to the 11 man game. That being said, you can't teach speed, size, or football instincts. I'm sure this guy has them if he's being recruited by OU.
