OU issue that worries me

we play some slower teams on defense before we get to OU. Our QB's get in a routine of being a little lazy on our throws. We complete them with no problem on DB's that play off our receivers and are usually a couple steps slower. The past 2 weeks i've seen Colt complete some out routes and long throws that were behind our WR's.

We get accustomed to making those throws, but when we get to OU their DB's cut the gap between the DB's and WR's and break on the ball quicker. So those throws behind the receivers will be a pick 6 against faster DB's.

Colt can't make some of the throws he has been making up to this point.

Thanks for pointing this out. I hadn't thought of it, but you make an excellent point.

Regards,
Colt McCoy

I thought we were playing Colorado this week. If they horns get to looking forward like this, it won't matter because we'll be playing ou with one loss. Keep your focusednessedertpgou.

You don't complete 80% of your passes if many of your throws are behind the WR, or in font of them or over their head, etc. The man is accurate when he has some time, he also will hit guys when he is on the run.

The key will be pass protection. If Colt has time, I'm not worried about him making the throws before the DB breaks on the ball. He is very accurrate, and our WR's are not exactly slow.

let's beat CU in Colorado this week before we get worried about the next game.

Man, forget the defense, look at Ou's offense. Their speed on offense against TCU, a supposed defensive juggernaut, was outrageous.

They wlil burn our corners so fast, they could easily lead 14-0 early.

But, check this out, against TCU and probably every other opponent so far, they haven't had to play a whole game. They looked very lax in the second half the other night, even thought the first team was still in.

So, the key is staying in the ball game, within a touchdown or less, and then beat them in the fourth quarter.

With this is mind, if we win the toss, I would recommend starting out choosing to play offense first. I would try to come out of the gate with an offense designed to work against their quickness, and move down the field taking as little time as possible and scoring first.

Let them know they are in for a shootout. I don't see either team winning a 14-10 game, or anything short of 30 points.

My biggest concern is getting to Bradford. We gotta get some turnovers in this game and pressure is the name of the turnover game. No pressure == a very long day.

^^^^^ agreed. I don't think anyone who posts here thinks that the Texas secondary is all world, but this won't be a 7-on-7 game. Overall this will be a battle for both teams, unlike any they have seen yet this season. #1 against #5 (at least - I think LSU loses to the gators), two QBs lighting the world on fire, and a shot at the national title on the line. It doesn't get any better.

I worry about 2 things:
1. The people that work the concession stands inside the cotton bowl. It's like they took an oath to move like old people ****.
2. Being stuck behind a pillar on row 54.

Steel Shank is going to create a new sandwich called "Don't Throw Behind The Receivers If You Don't Want OU To Get The Pick Six" sandwich. I will make sure that Colt's gets a taste of one before Dallas.

Am I wrong, or does Colt have just about the quickest release in the business. he seems to go from looking around for receivers to a completed pass before I can say, "OU issue that worries me the most" (but like I'd be saying it really fast).

The thing I worry about more than anything else against Oklahoma is being able to establish a running game. Lets face it we are back to the pre-Vince days of struggling to run the football effectively. Asking our offense to run against one of the top defenses in the country is a pretty big task.

The 2nd thing I'm worried about is the lack of a true third receiver to go with Quan and Shipley.

Finally I'm worried about the gimmic play from their offense. Our DBs are going to be tight and have a lot on thier minds and Stoops is going to throw all kinds of crap at them to get them thinking. When that happens we will be primed for getting hit with a trick play like an option pass or reverse.

Where I think we have an advantage is putting pressure on Bradford, he was sacked about 4 times against TCU and we are better than them at getting to the QB. If we can get him thinking we can force him into making mistakes.

This game will be won in the trenches like always the team that establishes the LOS will be the one that ends up #1.

I like our chances
