Sitting at the Tavern in Austin,, waiting on tipoff. Scalped tix fell thru... Hook 'em!

I'd pull the first 8 guys, play whatever you got left and send a statement. These guys should give a refund for their meal ticket this week. Worst half of basketball I have ever seen. Looks like I'm watching Upward or something.

It's like I'm watching the Valero Bowl again with this pathetic offense. Twenty percent shooting for the half. Twenty. Percent.

Same ole, same ole. A head coach who is totally clueless on the offensive side of the court. Do not have the one or two players who can knock it dead when left alone. The only time Barnes has had an offense is when he had a future NBA point guard that could drive by everyone. The Big 12 is pretty good this year. If something doesn't change, it's going to be a long season.

Look like a very familiar theme for Rick Barnes' team. Long stretches of no scoring, and inconsistent outside shooters. Wow, this is hard to watch.

They need to take a good look at The Women's Basketball Team at Texas. If their Offense is not working in games. They lock down on Defense more.To jump start the Offense.
And you got to play with some passion and fire in your eye's.
The Men's Team is not showing that.

I don't blame this on Barnes. I refuse to believe that the players were not coached to play much better than this. They are all playing with no energy and with their head up their ***. None of them want to be on the floor right now.

It's hard to keep watching when it's pretty obvious the team is just mailing it in. It should be easy to find something compelling to do that beats watching this. Perhaps I can catch the last 30 minutes of The Bachelor with my wife.

I went to the game. That was awful. One of the worst I can recall.

The halftime show with the quick-change artists was one of the best halftime shows I've ever seen. So, the admission price did buy something....

UT fg % = 30% UT made 7 of 8 ft
ou fg % =42% ou made 15 of 18 ft

UT 3 pt fg % =29%
ou 3 pt fg% = 42%

We did not/could not score in the paint, while ou camped there, and dominated down low.

I don't know what causes a team to shoot such a low fg %. Holmes, Turner and Taylor were not making their shots. Ridley is an offensive no show. And ou dominated the paint.

Texas looked like a different team than the one that beat UConn and played well at Kentucky.

I may be chicken little, but this team has lost something. It reminds me of the team a few years ago that went undefeated the first half of the season, and then lost something like 15 of the next 18. Barnes essentially lost the team that year.

Somebody talk me off the ledge. I don't know basketball x's and o's so someone who does please help out.

The statesman article talked about the announcers blasting the fan base, any idea what the biggest slights were? Aside from the atrocious offensive performance haha

The good news (for me) was that I got to catch up with my friend at the Tavern, since keeping our eyeballs glued to the screen was quite a painful exercise! Ugly, ugly game.

To quote the Statesman:

"“We played the No. 1-ranked team in the country with passion, with focus, with energy and effort,” Barnes said. “Anybody can do that one time. But if we’re the team we want to be, that has to be every night. And we haven’t had it since.

“So I told those guys, ‘Does that mean we’re a bunch of phony tough guys?’ ” "

I'm curious why a game like this happens, and I've never played basketball at a high level (beyond freshman year in HS) myself, so I'd be interested in any informed thoughts. Is it team psychology? Lack of effort? Mental focus? Attitude? Is the coach responsible for all of this, or do the players have to internally generate all these things? Too much of a holiday break without much basketball mixed in?

I guess next Saturday's game against Okie State will be telling. Hopefully, a different team appears... Hook 'em.

Before the game, there was a large crowd at Scholtz' and people were chanting "OU" "Sucks" etc. Like a football game. The energy was very high in the crowd when the game started.

The team did not fail to create a single highlight worth cheering for because the crowd was quiet--it was quite the opposite.

Oklahoma is leading Texas 29-10 with just over 2 min. left in the half. No noise in the Erwin Ctr is very strange because it was always loud

The Link

ESPN must have had the nat sound mics turned down then plus Musburger's tone was that of a golf announcer and I'm totally serious.

Not sure if you are responding to my post directly, but I agree it was very quiet at the game. You seemed to be taking a swipe at UT basketball fans as not willing to cheer, and I was just pointing out that the crowd--a decent sized crowd, really--came to the game all fired up, but that there was almost nothing, NOTHING, to cheer about. By the time it was 29-10, as referred to, I don't think we had even taken a foul shot, and our shooting was something like 4 for 36. The crowd did boo a couple of foul calls.

We've all heard the saying, that when a team visits a tough venue, that the visiting team wants to get out to a fast start to "take the crowd out of it." Seems like that is exactly what ou did.

14 points In the first half. That is a record which may stand forever. Futility beyond words.

Perhaps Barnes has been consulting with Shawn Watson regarding offensive strategies.

The players seemed to be clueless about how to attack the ou defense.
