Anyone else notice how quite they were. We were in the end zone and could not hear them playing when they were on the field before kickoff. We were looking at each other and asking " are they even playing"??Props to our band for sounding GREAT yesterday!!!!!
I usually like all opposing teams bands...except for ou's. I've never forgiven them for the year- way back in the early 60's, I think- when they went on the field at halftime and marched and played throughout the entire halftime. The LHB never even went on the field and had to do their halftime performance after the game was over.
It was a completely planned event by the OU Director and just made me hate them all the worse.
By my username you should know that I'm biased, but -
having seen the prrrrrriiiiiidddddeeeee of okrahoma for all these years, that edition yesterday was the worst in a long time.
The show was middle school material musically (e.g. a local HS band director here in Austin, when asked last week if his band would play the theme to The Incredibles for a drill team dance, remarked "It's too easy, I'd be embarrassed for my kids to perform it")
BTW. props to the LHB twirler - three fire batons at once was pretty cool and old school.
If I recall, that was the 1967 game where the OU band played the entire halftime. We had already lost two games that year and they were undefeated. Bill Bradley led the ugliest 9-7 win you can imagine. OU must have missed at least 4 FG's during the game. And as for karma? OU did not lose again and won the Orange Bowl to finish #2 in both polls. The thought of costing them a MNC still sits well with me.
