OU @ 11:00?

i dont really care what time the game starts. 11, 2 or 7. it is a great game regardless!

as for the safety issue, i can not remember a single UT-OU game where I left the Fair grounds before it got dark. We go to the game. We go to the exhibits. We eat. We go to more exhibits. We eat more. We make fun of poor Sooner fans. We eat more. We go to MORE exhibits. We make fun of the Sooners. We finally go to the CAR EXHIBIT! We watch the closing parade of lights and we walk back to our car parked in Fair grounds parking with our 5 kids. Never been even slightly concerned about safety except for the high cholesterol running through my veins after a full day eating at the Fair!

We've got some real ******* on this board. Fair Park is a low income, predominately black neighborhood. And if your tastes swing that way, it is fairly easy to find a gentleman in the area who will be happy to supply you with narcotics.

But the fact is that Fair Park is far from the most dangerous neighborhood in Dallas, and wouldn't be the most dangerous part of Houston or Austin. It amazes me that people who will spend Friday drunk on Lower Greenville or in Deep Ellum without a second thought suddenly get freaked out over the prospect of being near Fair Park Saturday, even though the crime rate is not significantly different (assuming you're not buying or selling drugs).

I wonder why that is.

That is a 9amer here on the left coast.

meaning, I can watch the game and then still have a full day to do whatever I want
OR
I can buy a shitload of bloodymary stuff the night before and be belligerent before noon. yummmm, belligerence

We plan to walk through the gates at 7AM for our traditional beer and corndog toast. This will be my 15th consecutive year going to the game, and in that time it's been at 11, 12 or 2:30. Regardless of kickoff time, we are there before 8, wander around the fair, yell our heads off at the game, and usually stay to watch the headline act at night. I've never been worried for my safety.

Well, except last year when we all rolled drunkenly into Bar of Soap across from the fairgrounds. That was a little scary.

I don't give a damn if they play at dawn or midnight. It's the best game of the year.

Eleven A.M. works for me and I suspect the rest of the world that works. You people not used to getting out of bed in the morning?

Speaking of that neighborhood Fair Park is located in. Years ago we had some friends visiting from Staten Island. They arrived a day or so before the OU/Texas Game and I thought we might as well take them along. I figured they had never been to a ball game with the kind of atmosphere the RRS provides.

Anyway we land in Dallas fair early on Saturday Morning, it is rainy and dreary. They bring our car right out to the aircraft and we all climb in to be hauled to the Fair.

Just as we got to where the really ****** part of town starts it was clear enough to see well. You could see the obvious distress on their faces. I didn't say anything and just hoped they would focus their attention on something else.

We finally arrive at the fair and we had been looking around for about 20-30 minutes when one of the New Yorkers asks "Is all of Texas like this"?

I could barely keep a straight face when I answered "Yeah, well no not really, some of it is really bad".

My wife, at the time, a Texas born young lady, didn't speak to me for the rest of the day. It was a damn fine weekend
