OT rules in AISD

I went to my stepson's middle school games last night between Lamar & Kealing, and the "7B" teams were tied at the end of regulation. At the top of the 3-minute overtime, Kealing missed a shot, and subsequently hacked a Lamar player in the act of shooting. He missed both FTs, but another Lamar kid hustled for the rebound and put it back in for 2 points.

The refs called the game.

Huh? Sudden death OT in basketball? Is this an AISD rule at all levels, or do they just do it to keep younger kids from playing all night long?

It has been a few years since I was a ref in AISD, but I remember that AISD did sudden death in B team games because there is another game to follow. I would call the AISD athletics office and ask them if ou are concerned. Budget cuts over the years have limited AISD to a 6 game schedule for Middle School.

Sudden death in basketball OTs, I believe, is an old practice. I don't recall ever seeing it, but I remember reading a book when I was a kid that used it in the story.
