OT being photogenic, fact or fiction?

I believe it is true. I've seen some really good looking people look absolutely miserable in pics and some so-so people look decent in pics. My friend disagrees though. He said, if you're good looking, you'll look good looking in pics, you are what you are. Your thoughts?

It is all lights and shadows. There are some people who don't look good in person because of particular facial defect(s) that can be hidden from a particular angle in a photo, with the right lighting. I know a girl who in pictures from the left side with her head slightly tilted looks like a super model. But faced head on, ugh.

and then on flip side, I know some decent looking people who for whatever reason, don't look as good in person.

I photographed models for years and I remember a photographer talking about Cheryl Tiegs who said that a person has 1000 different faces that can be captured by the camera, if a model is lucky 50 of them are beautiful, with Cheryl it is 200.

That has pretty much been my experience. A woman who is a 5 may only have 5 out of 1000 beautiful faces, but if she can produce them on command then she is photogenic. I met a few models like that, 7s that look like 9s or 10s on film.

I look horrible in photos. Always have and therefor really avoid having my picture taken. I've had many people tell me it's remarkable how better I look in person than photos.

On line dating is not my forte.

Yeah, the idea is to not post a photo and then call anyone shallow who wants to see a pic first.

That Seinfield skit is awesome. Costanza is hilarious. Yeah, I've had people not let me into a bar or a club because apparently, my id doesn't look like me. I guess everyone takes horrible id pics though.

I think most people post 8 year old pics in their online profile.

I took a photography class in high school. I shot one of the girls in the class on a white background with black and white film. In real life, she was pretty but not beautiful. But she was stunningly photogenic. I was proud of the photographs but really it was all her. In one of my favorite photos, I gave her the excellent direction to "do something." She put a finger to her lips and said, "duh." I clicked. It turned out to be a really sensuous photograph.

It's definitely true. My girlfriend is attractive but she takes amazing photos that make her look like a supermodel. I commented on how photogenic she is, and she said that it's all a trick. She learned years ago what the best angles for her face were, and always gives those angles to the camera.
