Oswalt Lewis to the Doctor

More bad news: The Rx for Colby is surgery

He is done for the season. Looks like the Rangers will be looking for a pitcher before the trade deadline...

If the Phillies are now "sellers" and want to get younger with some prospects, perhaps they would package Carlos Ruiz and Cliff Lee. Cliff is a known quantity and is under contract for several years to come - and at a price below what the Rangers offered during his free agency period.

Torrealba doesn't add much to the club, and the presence of Ruiz as the front-line catcher would free Napoli to be the all-purpose guy at 1B, DH, and backup catcher.

Thoughts, fellow Zealots?

If the Phils traded Ruiz, there would be a Riot at the Lincoln or whatever their stadium is called. He's the only guy they have hitting over .300.

"Can somebody help me with this".... considering Cliff Lee. I have not been following him real closely this season. He was a great fit for us in 2010 and got us through the playoffs and into the WS.

BUT, he is getting older - 33 or 34, I think. He is probably not a "rental" player but his shelf-life is somewhat limited. What concerns me the most is he is having a horrible season so far - last I heard: 1 win and 4 losses. His ERA was decent last I heard, but is this the right pitcher for the Rangers now?

I will hang up and listen....

Don't make a trade....One pitcher isn't going to make the difference this season

Colby, DL for 2012

Oswalt, who knows how reliable he'll be. Likely not down the stretch. Back to the DL perhaps.

Feliz, is he going to pitch in 2012 after coming off the DL? Certainly not in the rotation

Ogando, getting hit. Check that. GETTING HIT HARD after coming off the DL

Holland, looking shaky off the DL

(notice how many times the DL was referred to???? Skip 2012, let's be focused on a great future

The Rangers need someone to fill out the staff, right now they have 3/5ths of a rotation and even 1/3 of that in Holland is shaky. Oswalt and Feldman at 4-5 if and when Oswalt comes back is not a real answer if the rangers want to make any noise this year especially with the Angels and A's coming on strong. I am not crazy about Cliff Lee unless they can get him on the cheap and only for this year. There are a couple of young pitchers who can come up next year and with Lewis and Feliz back 2013 is looking OK, I am just not ready to give up on 2012 with a 5 game overall and 6 game lead in the loss column near the end of July and tied basically for the best record in the AL.

Hamels would be the guy from Philly; not Lee. That would cost Olt plus. The real question will be do the Rangers start planning for free agency for 2013 and 2014:

To be Free Agents after this season:

Hamilton
Adams
Lewis
Lowe
Napoli
Torrealba

To be Free Agents after next season:

Cruz
Feldman
Murphy
Young

So yes a catcher could be needed before next season, and I do not believe there is one ready in the Minors. With his injury Lewis will almost have to resign for at least a year (if not two) with the Rangers. No one misses Lowe now so he does not have any leverage. Which brings us to Hamilton, Adams, Napoli and Torrealba.

From listening to Wash and Ryan over the last week, they are trying to send Hamilton a message. How he responds over the next month will determine what the Rangers do. If the Rangers believe Gentry is for real, the team sting of losing Hamilton will be almost non-existent. (The fans will be pissed, but the team can only carry a guy for so long - especially with LAA and Oak picking up ground fast.) The wild cards are Napoli and Torrealba.

The only keeper after next season will be Murphy assuming he doesn't get hurt. I have had it with Cruz' antics at the plate and his inability to play his position consistently. Young will be a wild card.

Lee keeps bringing his ERA lower after his bad start. The Phils offense has been terrible without Utley and Howard. I would take Lee for the right trade, especially given he is signed for 4 years. Anybody with an ERA under 3.70 would be golden down the stretch.
