Orioles Bury the Red Sox

As a long-suffering Orioles fan, it was damn sweet to see the Birds take 5 of 7 from the Bahston Red Sawx. Scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th, after an hour and a half game delay, and knocking the Sox out of the playoffs - just amazing.

for there to look a week ago like there would be almost no races to the finish - there sure were lots of dramatic finishes last night. wow. Congrats to O's, Rays, Rangers and Cardinals.

I should've clarified: the Birds took 5 of 7 in the month of September.

On paper, many Red Sox fans thought they had a clear advantage playing the last place Os 7 times in September. With the Yanks, Red Sox, and Rays, the East has been murder's row, so I'll take the O's last stand any day.

As a NYY fan, I laughed my *** off, especially since it was on Papelbon, and more especially that 4 minutes later the Rays won to eliminate the Sox.

It may cost Francona his job, which I'd hate to see; he's a good guy, but Papelbon, Youkilis, Lackey, Lester, and Big Pappy can GTH.

As a Red Sox fan, I will agree with Bill Simmons that this was a mercy killing.

Our entire pitching staff was falling apart so much that we kept using John Lackey despite him clearly going insane. And Youkilis, Papi, and Pedroia all had season-ending surgeries put off until Youks finally couldn't hold it together anymore.

If we made it to the playoffs, I could easily see us going 0-for for the series with ugly blowouts.

While all of that is true about the suckitude of the Sawx, they nevertheless deserved better from their friends at NYY who benched all the starters and didn't put in Rivera to close it out.

Hook'em!!!
