opinions on Roku

my wife wants to get her mother this, or the Apple TV. Seeing as my MIL is not in the Apple world, other than her iPhone, does anyone recommend a Roku?

Quick background--MIL is a widow, mainly watches the big 4 networks, has cable but doesn't use much of it. I was thinking that we could suggest she drop her cable, add Hulu Plus, possibly Netflix, and with digital antenna, she could still be covered on what she currently watches while kicking TimeWarner to the curb and saving $.

Do you have one/do you like it/do you use it?

I opted for a BluRay player that is connected to the web. That way I am not restricted by any movie format and can use Netflix, HuluPlus or other gadgets. It cost me 99 bucks. I don't have cable and have not for several months now. I get the big networks in HD and pretty much anything I want to watch via network sites or Netflix and Hulu. I am very happy and saving a good chunk of change which goes to my house which should be paid off in two years now.

This was not Roku specific but another way to do it. Oh, get an HDMI cord for her computer to tv action.
