Roughly, a little more than 120 days to the beginning of the college football season. So lets get your first predictions out there for the major conferences and start the fun. Here's my early projections.

ACC Atlantic-Clemson
ACC Coastal-Virginia Tech - Conference Champ-VTech

BIG EAST-West Virginia

BIG TEN-Ohio St. (oh God, not again!)

SEC East-Florida
SEC West-Alabama (yeah, I know, but...) - Conference Champ-Florida

PAC 10-Arizona St. (again, I know...)

MT.WEST-BYU

CONF.USA East-UCF
CONF.USA West-Tulsa - Conference Champ-UCF

WAC-Boise St. (watch out OU!)

...and finally...
BIG XII North-Missouri
BIG XII South-Texas (surprise!) - Conference Champ-Texas (NOT OU)

Now, your thoughts.

SEC - Georgia
Big East - WVU (no one else worth a damn)
Big 10 - Ohio State
ACC - Clemson
Pac 10 - USC
Big 12 - Abstain

I think we are about the same except that I think that Illinois shocks people and wins the Big Televen. Also, I refrain from the Big 12 prognostications.

But Zook has tons of talent coming in still, yet another year in system and a team that believes. They got done up in the BCS game but still, they are mostly entact, right? I do know he has a great class coming in and had some talent taking redshirts last year.

I would love for them to do it. But OSU will be back on top next year or near it. Then they can go back to a BCS game, where they don't belong and get thumped yet again. That is their role, like OU. BCS *******.

Here's my reasoning (for what it's worth)

Clemson-simply the best in the Atlantic
VATech-my BCS dark horse this year. Tremendous speed on both sides of the ball and should bounce back after a down year in 07.

WVA-New coach, but who can stay with them?

tOSU-Again, with all that talent, who can stay with them? Besides, Illinois reminds me a little of A&M. 2-3 losses is a great season to them.

Florida-The Dawgs had a good year based on a couple of upsets and rode the wave. For me, too much inexperience up front to knock off the Gators.

Bama-This is their GA year. I think they'll ride the wave of a couple of upsets (including Auburn) and take the west.

ASU-I picked the Devils simply because I know Dennis Erickson and like his coaching style. Frankly, with the talent that USC and UCLA bring in, they should be on top every year. They should be back in 09 and beyond.

BYU-Because no one else in the MWest will be able to score enough to beat'em.

UCF & Tulsa-Does anyone else care about this conference?

Boise St.-"Boolah-Boolah, Boolah-Boolah!"
biggrin.gif

Missouri-Kansas has too much to replace, NU is at least a year away and while Colorado may be the dark horse of the North, I don't think anyone can knock the Tigers off...yet.

The South (and Texas)-I'll give my reasons another time, but I'll stand by this one...and I think for very sound reasons.

Hook'em!

You've obviously seen a lot more of the team than I have since the Holiday Bowl. From what I saw last year and what I know about the teams on our schedule in 2008, five losses is definitely possible. Probable? No way.

But again, I can also see us getting lucky and running the table.

Not meant as a dig or demeaning whatsoever. Was just curious how you came to that opinion.

Again, without going into the reasons or my reasoning behind how and why I feel the Horns will do well this year, I can say that it would appear from all indications that both the team and the staff have learned some hard lessons over the course of '07. That in and of itself is good news knowing that Mack isn't so set in his ways that he would refuse to learn anything new. So just as a perpective (mine and some others), remember the '04 team. They had some stumbles along the way, but how they got to where they were by the time Michigan and the Rose Bowl rolled around is one of the tennents of how I (we) view Texas this season. I'll leave it there for now.

ACC - Clemson
Big Least - W. Virginia
BIg Ten - Wisconsin
SEC - Georgia ( for a NC)
PAC Ten - USC
Big 12 - Missouri

I was ready to be cautious with my prediction for the Big 12 until the Sooner popped off.

TEXAS TEXAS TEXAS!!!!!!!

ALL THE WAY!!!

Back to reality: I want to see what the defense does on the field before I get too giddy. I see potential; but let's see some actual gametime.

seems like I've heard this "Texas is going to win the South & then the Conference, trust me" thing before.

Well since this is a Texas board, you'll probably read it again and again. Last time I checked, more than a few of you okies have been saying the same thing about OU on the scoop and fans.com. So what's your point, '73?

Hook'em.

Why wouldn't a Sooner fan think we're going to win the Conference this year.
We win it at a pace of 50% since the Conference was formed & have won 5 out of 7 in this new Century.
The last 2 years, Stoops has won twice as much BIG XII hardware as any other coach in this league.
I'd say OU fans have a right to feel confident that this year is going to be the same-ole-same-ole when it comes to Conference play.

You should feel that way. Certainly not aggie. But while there are no guarantees and barring injury, I believe the Horns could be on the doorstep of a 4-5 year run. Do I thnk they'll run the table in '08? Nope. Do I believe they'll take the conference this year? Yes. But as always, and I think you'd agree, it'll come down first to the winner of the RRS and second, who can keep from stumbling the rest of the way.

BTW, Tech and Mizzou are the only ones that scare me now. I don't think OU plays Mizzou this year do they?

Hook'em!

Until I see the defense in action, everyone scares me.

Ha! I can understand that based on the last 2 seasons. It may take them a few games to get all of the nuances, calls and reads right. But if, and I realize that it's a big if, they can pull it together by the time Colorado rolls around, then Katy and OU better bar the door.

Hook'em!

Are we going to have to worry about Kansas now or are they headed back their historical suckitude? Same with Mizzou, although their historical norm is several steps above the KU historical norm.

For me, Missouri is solid. If their defense can close some of those gaping holes they had against OU, they should win the North and give us quite a headache. Kansas? I'm sorry, but I see them losing losing at least 3 if not 5 games this year.

Two is twice as many as ONE.......

In a two year period, this would be interesting.....

Vol and sooner just didn't catch the math - which is really funny.

Matbe you missed the part where he was comparing the last two years of Stoops career against the ENTIRE career of every other BIG XII coach!

I didn't miss anything.

I read vol's quote of the gooner,
"The last 2 years, Stoops has won twice as much BIB XII hardware as any other coach in this league."

Still true the gooner's statement is funny as hell - give the vol a pass since he mentioned career in his statement.

I may not be a mathematician but...

Let me restate what some others posted:
Bob Stoops has 2x the number of trophies any other coach has.
Each coach has 0 trophies.

Bob Stoops has 2(0) = 0 trophies

Yes, everyone realizes Stoops and the dirt thieves have won 2 B12 Trophies in the past 2 years. Yes he has outperformed everyone else in conference the past 2 years by winning back to back conference championships. But if you **** up math trying to make your point....

Anecdote cause I have it. This guy (Steve), David and myself were having a conversation about who would win in a fight. Pre-prison Mike Tyson or Bruce Lee (in his prime). David and myself said Tyson. The undergrad Steve, couldnt believe us and left. The next day he writes on our board that Tyson could punch 2x the average man's speed (unclocked, estimated by him) and that Bruce could punch (to make a long story short) what amounted to 1.2x the sound barrier. So for the remainder of the semester we called him Guile (from street fighter) and yelled 'SONIC BOOOOOMMM'

Some of you Texas guys are realllyy slllooowww.
I'll try my best in the future to type every possible scenario so some of you can keep up.

This message board is for the discussion of football related topics, not squabbles in semantics. The gooner's statement is accurate, although it "could of" been phrased more clearly to make his point. This is undoubtedly due to the inferior education he received, where practical things like stealing and taking by force are stressed rather than the peculiarities of the English language.

Back to the topic, I don't know how anyone can say that OU doesn't have reason for optimism; they have dominated the Big XII conference in football. In fact, in the last 2 seasons, OU has won more Big XII titles than the faculty of current Big XII coaches has won over the course of their collective careers.

Texas played in and won the 2006 Rose Bowl because of a fearsome defense. Our defense has been awful for two years. This year, it is fearsome. Expect pain.
