Opinion: A&M is UT’s crazy ex-girlfriend

You have to read it.

Spoiler for the two best lines

.....

"We have been in a higher, more competitive football division for 12 years and we still frequently beat them in other sports, with recent back to back wins in our hockey games against them on Jan. 28 and 29."

Yes, hockey! LOL

"Why be a crazy ex-girlfriend when we were the hotter partner to begin with?"

Bwhahahaahaha.

My family are Aggies. Several years ago I arrived at a family reunion type event and these people were bragging about the days news regarding the Aggie softball team’s victory over ‘tu’.
I mean no disrespect to softball. Not one single person had any interest in softball nor had ever watched one pitch of any softball game, ever.
Sad sacks.

Kind of like the Texas fans who suddenly embrace all the NCs in "other sports" since football, which is king at Texas, has sucked balls for over a decade. Kind of like that.

Suddenly embrace? I think you mean have reading comprehension skills to be able to see every month about a new Texas national championship. There's so many that no one can list them all off. There's a few sports people care enough about to rattle off the titles. For me, that's baseball with it's six championships.

I get your point But I see a tremendous difference between aggy gloating over 1 softball game and Texas fans celebrating Conference and National Championships in sport after sport after sport.
I know you appreciate the effort it takes to even win a Conference title let alone a National Championship.
You only have to look here on HF to see how many years and how many posts there are on "other sports" to know this isn't sudden interest.
I do get your point, just think your analogy is off.

I do hear you hear my friend, but my point was these people have zero interest in softball. Doing ‘whoop’ and trading good bull about a sport they care zip about.
I’ve never seen a UT fan say anything about beating Aggie except with the big 3 sports.
if tu beat Aggie in that one meaningless softball game , they wouldn’t have even noticed it.

I'm proud anytime UT wins a thing. Am I going to rush over to the Co-op and buy a NC volleyball, tennis, or Quidditch shirt, naw. I might mention it here, but that's about as far as my embracement goes.

Three things to consider: Football IS and will rightfully be King at Texas
Think of how many Football fans etc have daughters nieces girlfriends relatives that play sports for Texas,as well as tremendous male athletes on golf swimming diving etc.
places like HF has provided a place where people who support all these other sports can interact with each other. Plus introduces others who may not have before. How many new fans of Volleyball etc are therenow?
I see it as such a GREAT thing. To have so many programs at the top
It is NOTHING like a whiny aggy trying to make one game more important.

Except Texas has been winning NC’s in other sports for a long time now. It’s sort of like background traffic noise when living next to a busy road. Not a sin to recognize that you live next to a busy highway of national ******* championships!!!

I think there is a misunderstanding here. I'm saying the average fan of major football programs like Texas are fans because of football. The fact that people like those who post a lot on fan boards are aware of and follow the other sports is akin to the poster on a Lincoln forum who knows his vehicle inside and out. The average driver is clueless.

Point taken. I have hard time relating to the average folks.

:coolnana:

I wonder how many trophies they have in their case for softball games won against UT!?!? Last time I saw, that trophy case was empty.

Disagree I attended 79 to 83. Football, Basketball and Baseball and even golf and swimming were very poular. Women sports basketball swimming and volleyball were as well. Frankly I miss attending baseball more than any of the others (I live in Houston). I still think baseball and swimming were a big part of why Big would not fit.

Again, not talking about students and fan board posters. Talking fan base overall.

Aren’t we reigning currently as the top ranking American school in all sports combined—director’s cup or whatever?

I mean, yes, we grieve our underperforming football team, but being #1 in all sports combined is not a trifle.

(Oh, and this isn’t even about academics….)
