Open Carry Texas
I like the licensure aspect of concealed-carry because almost everyone who goes through the training carries weapons for the right reason and knows how to handle a firearm. I don't hate guns, but in the hands of people who are unskilled, unintelligent, chemically impired, emotionally unstable or don't value human life, they are dangerous to the innocent.
I'm not averse to allowing people with concealed-carry permits to have visibly holstered sidearms, but I'll bet most would still choose to carry them in concealed holsters. The permitting aspect is crucial, because when a person, like the angry man who killed three Muslims in North Carolina, give signs of being constantly angry, threatening and emotionally unstable, law enforcement can do something about weapons display before body bags are needed.

I'm for open carry just for the hilarity that will ensue when groups of black men legally walk around the burbs with AKs.

Re: Open Carry Texas
Well Larry, I think it's already legal to carry long guns in public. Now if they wore visiby holstered sidearms or concealed weapons without a concealed/carry permit that would be a problem.
The most vocal Open Carry proponents want everyone to be able to carry visible sidearms without a permit. The Senate committee overwhelmingly approved changes that would allow concealed-carry folks to bring arms to a college campus and visibly carry sidearms instead of as concealed sidearms. However, that stops well short of what some "Open Carry" organizations have demanded.

Re: Open Carry Texas
I cant figure out why this is such a big deal one way or the other. Its not like there are folks going everywhere with pistols in the 30+ states its already legal. I dont think we're gonna see some outpouring of guns everywhere if it passes just like I dont know anyone dying for this to pass anyway.
Seems like time could be better spent.
