3 min to have a hostess greet and seat.
No booths, even though 5 were open, sat at a table off the bar.
No bar seats (where I wanted to sit)
Ordered Crown/Coke, 7&7. Out of Segrams 7.
Got tea, ordered food.
Told girl that they would be out of what I ordered (forgot what it was, but their 'speciality')
Waitress comes back 20 min later, we are out of what I ordered.
"Please cancel our order, we will go elsewhere."
20 More min, the manager came to comp our entire meal (so a cocktail and a ice tea).
Left a 5$ tip even though I would never go back.
Sea Island had to be better, even though I never went.
So you hung around another 20 minutes after they told you they were out of what you ordered to eat??
Sounds like your experience was kinda like my last one at Sam's Boat. Went in for lunch one day, no waitress came by to even say hello, even though they weren't very busy. We waited about five minutes, as the waitress that was in our section walked back and forth about 4 times w/o even acknowledging that we were there before I said "**** this place" and we got up to leave. It was at this point that the "manager" or whatever, who had been standing at the bar chatting with three waitresses who were doing nothing, came up to us and said "Did you guys not get helped?" We both answered "No!" and walked out as he was trying to get us to stay. I won't be going back anytime soon.
If they were slammed, then that's one thing. But to have all kinds of staff standing around with nothing to do, and nobody can even bring a glass of water or drop off menus when it's dead?? **** that.
Waited 20 min for the comp....should have just left, but then when the PoPo showed up at my place, it would have gone bad.
Sams Boat did the same to us and we know everyone that works there, managers, bartenders, etc. Went to the bar, stood there for 5 min, then said **** it.
Have not been back.....
Vegas school of economics, take my money exponentially faster than I can spend it...seems that Austin has a hard time doing that ANYWHERE.
Agreed on Opal's not being anything fabulous (or even marginal). It's listed as Opal Divine's MARINA but I think the most they have in the way of seafood was the name of the joint...
Went there for lunch last week & had to seat myself (moderately busy). Sat @ the hightop tables in the "bar" area (crappy viewing for two televisions; bad angles all the way around). 5 minutes later, bartendress comes with a menu. Since all I was doing was lunch & no beerz, got water w/ my customary lemon wedge.
Meal came a bit slow (seemed @ half capacity) & they never brought me a knife / fork / napkin. Finally had to ask for one @ the bar & nobody ever came up to ask or do a refill on my drink.
Food was generic; service was beyond flat. I was really hoping they'd have something seafood-y on the menu.
Sorry that y'all had such bad experiences. I've been to the downtown location several times and the one up north once and have had great service/experiences every time. The wife and I went to the one up north a couple of Saturdays ago. We sat at the bar and had a great time talking to the bartender about scotch. She let me sample a lot of the different ones they had and taught me a lot about scotch. I would highly recommend going to Opal's.
I had a client close to the one on S. Congress. I started scheduling meetings at 2-3pm so I wouldn't have to eat lunch there. I'd rather fight traffic going back to the office on mopac than eat their food. And I HATE traffic. I havent tried the one up north, though.
