Here’s a list of current OOS targets I’m aware of.

Offered:
OT Andrus Peat, Tempe AZ
DE Torshiro Davis, Shreveport, LA
DB Geno Smith, St. Pius X School (Atlanta, GA)
OL John Theus, Bolles (Jacksonville, FL)
WR Dorial Green-Beckham, Springfield, MO
DT Eddie Goldman, Washington DC
DT Issac Gross, Batesville, MS
WR Marvin Bracy, Orlando, FL
DE Adolphus Washington, Cincinatti, OH
OT Freddie Tagaloa, Richmond, CA
DE Channing Ward, Aberdeen, MS
DE Jelani Hamilton, Ft. Lauderdale, FL
DE Denico Autry, Scooba MS (Juco)
OL DJ Humphries, Mallard Creek (Charlotte, NC)

Not Offered, But Actively Pursuing:
ATH Nelson Agholor, Tampa, FL
DB Landon Collins, Geismar, LA

Who am I missing?

Gotta love the new staff mentality of recruiting OOS... if you're out actively recruiting 15-20 kids from outside of Texas, I would think you conceivably would get 10-20% of those kids... so if you could get 2-4 out of an OT Andrus Peat, a DE Torshiro Davis, a DB Landon Collins, DB Geno Smith, a DB Nelson Agholor or even a reach recruit like WR Dorial Green-Beckham, I'd continue the same way as the coaches are now.

Nothing in the past history (from DKR on wards) suggests any type of major OOS recruiting success. Out of the list anything more than one would suggest a superior result.

Ya Viper, you are correct... if you are out recruiting only 1 or 2 OOS players, you won't ever have much success at those odds! Texas has never aggressively gone after OOS kids like they are now and I believe you will see success this year...

This does seem to be changeful. I don't recall (literally) that any such OOS numbers were handled when Chizik or Boom came in from $EC country... Could be just the sheer numbers of new coaches, I suppose. Or it could be Mack reacting to hearing that sucking sound of a $100,000 a week salary going down the drain, and telling the boys to go balls to the wall.

One of the OC candidates (Chryst, I think) was rumored to have said something about a typical outcome of the situation back in December and January (i.e. a beleagured HC shitcanning pretty much his entire staff) was that the real issue turned out to be the HC himself and in a year or two the HC was gone, along with all his "new" coaches.

Whatever the reason, I find it very refreshing to see us actually putting significant effort into pursuing OOS talent.

I think there was sort of an "unwritten" thing between Mack and the high school coaching bigs in Texas when he got here. Stop pimping schools like Florida State, Miami, and Nebraska, and I'll do my best to take care of them when they help us win at Texas.

It's safe to say that the old era is over, so now I don't really care if he burns inroads in our back yard. If a kid from Texas doesn't want to play for Texas, then we probably wouldn't want him anyhow. I want smart kids who want to be here. If that means dipping into the other states, then I'm fine with it.

I also think there was a Mackovic backlash that Mack had to work quickly to erase, although Johnny was good at getting guys like Ricky Williams.
