I have a few friends using E-Trade, any other services recommended? I'm ready to put some $$ in the market and want to get a good service.

How independent of an investor are you? If you are pretty independent, Wells Fargo has a good brokerage deal. If you have $25K plus in your account, you get 100 free trades (includes mutual funds) per year so long as you do them yourself online or through the automated system over the phone.

Their research system is not great, but if you are looking for just numbers, etc., it is adequate. They have a limited version of Standard & Poor's. My dad uses another service that provides Standard & Poor's research that is much more detailed. However, I also have a subscription to WSJ, on which I also do some research.

I know that there are a lot of people who do not like WF and have problems with them, but I have not had any problems with them.

I'm talking very basic investing, $10,000. A couple of stock trades and mutual funds.

I do my own research through Schwab and Fidelity, but I'm a conservative mutual funds guy.

zecco.com -- 10 free trades per month as long as you open the account with 2500. if not, its only 4.50 per trade.

interactive brokers are the cheapest out there and very fast, plus if you know any programming you can create a custom interface for trading. The requirement to get started though is 10k.
