Online social/work networks

Has anyone gotten anything out of these things? I got an invite and joined LinkedIn, but I was wondering if there is really a benefit except to keep in contact with ex-coworkers.

I got a linkedIn network going, but everyone in my network is not the kind of people who do networking (ie, we're all a bunch of independent introverts), so I don't expect it to be much use.

I'm in the same boat that many people I know wouldn't want anything to do with something like this, so they wouldn't join.

Seems to be another social networking waste of time. I thought Friendster was cool...for about 2 weeks. Then it got pretty annoying and reminded me of junior high. LinkedIn doesn't seem to have much more potential.
