Texas was mired in a soul crushing six game losing streak and headed to a likely 4-8 season if the year ended with a home loss to K-State. That would be the least number of regular season wins by a Texas team since 1997 and the most losses by a Texas team in a season since 1956, the year before DKR arrived on campus. Bijan Robinson was injured and done for the year, both QB's were gimpy and there was a real question whether Texas would be able to do anything to score points against a K-State team that was coming in to Austin having won 4 of its last 5.
And then up stepped Roschon Johnson. Roschon who came to Texas as a QB but unselfishly moved to RB and had done everything every coach has ever asked of him in Austin. He has been a leader in the locker room from day one and set a standard that every player at Texas should strive to live up to. Roschon went full on Superman mode that Friday after Thanksgiving getting 179 yards on 31 carries with multiple times at QB including a pass completion. Inspired by Roschon's effort, the defense also stepped up on a couple of huge fourth downs and Texas gutted out a 22-17 win. In the grand scheme it was just a fifth win in a 5-7 season, but it ended the losing streak, helped end the year on a high note, and more than anything showed Texas that better things were on the horizon.
Roschon will always be in my pantheon of Texas football heroes and as he walks on Friday in senior day he does so with the extreme appreciation and thanks of this fellow Longhorn.
