One more win

For better or worse, after the half the commentators were still discussing Texas as a dark horse candidate for the playoffs. Remarkable how close this team is to being really really good (and yet still so far…Big 12 is tough this year)

What does it say about the state of longhorn fb when our ceiling is to get to the 6 win plateau just to make a bowl game.
I guess it could always be worse. At least we’re not aggy.

Currently, we are pretty much a mirror image of Aggy. Both teams with 5 star talent and underachievers.

6-6 is not bowl worthy. I met Bear Bryant the first time in our training room when I was 16 years old. I have great respect for the man and appreciate his advice, "If they are willing to invite you to their bowl, you're not too damn good to accept", BUT I question if a 7-5 Texas team deserves a bowl game. Screw the $$$, we don't need it and these kids need to understand that mediocrity is for schools like Third Ward and other "city schools" that can't pay their rent.

If we go 7-5 I wonder which players would pass on playing in a minor bowl

Bijan and Coburn for sure. Overshown and Sweat possibly. Jamison and Anthony Cook might be the next tier down where a good bowl game could get them on someone's radar. But they're doing this no matter what at this point... the big bowls are off the table.

But the point isn't who we're missing... it's who stays and what the coaches do with them. They get all those hours together prepping for next season... something we didn't get after 2021. I thought Herman's prep for the 2020 Alamo Bowl was great despite him being a lame duck. He really opened up the playbook on both sides of the ball and we saw some glimpses of Bijan, Thompson, Collins, etc. Team building helps culture.

I understand the Pain of the Longhorn Nation; however, the bowl game offers the opportunity for continued practice and depth building as we go into next year.

Yes, it gives several weeks to practice for 1 opponent and beat them. Then, we all think Texas is back, until they aren't.

ATX,

4 weeks in April, three weeks in August, 13 /14 weeks in the fall; after all that, a couple of more weeks of doing what you've been doing since April won't make a ****. I know you are repeating the popular narrative, and perhaps what you experienced, but what will that change?

Yeah, for sure I get it. I'm just trying to find a silver lining. It would appear that we could finish with a record that most had projected 7-5, 8-4 if we are lucky. It's buying into the hype when we look better than expected and then the harsh realities of being where we all thought we might be. We are in Y2-Sark and playing with young players. The hope of the bowl game/practice would just be the extra reps & extra game to build on the future.

Actually I think Bijan would play. They may all play. It’s a team chemistry thing and regardless of the disappointments, players will want to set an example. I’ll put Bijan, Roschon and perhaps others in that group.

I don’t know if I would want Bijan to play in a low tiered bowl. I would be so worried he would get hurt and jeopardize his NFL career.

And a silver lining to Bijan hanging it up would be more reps for Keilan.

The smart move is to play 2 series and then hand it over to the young guys. Everyone wins.

If we forced to go to a "made for ESPN" bowl, then CDC needs to dictate who (I know it should be "whom", but it sounds weird) the opponent is which means eliminating teams that are known to be dirty - BYU, convicts, et al

The sad thing is that we can go 4-0, if the coaches and some of the players get their head out of their ***. That would make us 9-3 and show progress.

I tell the team now,
win out and we are going bowling, other than that -pound sand-we are Texas not TCU.
Of course. Sark has to promise - If you aren’t playing well -you are riding pine.

i THINK they are already pros. Dont pro players get paid? College is just semi-pro now.
