One more time - Tiger is finished

Sayin I told ya so don't make me feel none better ... just correct. But, I mentioned a few whiles back that Shinnecock would show you how much Tiger is off his game. He is a non-factor in majors and will continue to be so. He is not the number one player in the world, in fact, only by obsequious stats that no one can decipher. Clearly there are half a dozen players that are playing better (translation: with consistency) than Tiger. He is no closer to correcting his swing flaws than he was a year ago. Please - spare me the "he will still win tons of money, yada yada yada". That's not the measure and Tiger has even stated himself, "Measure me by the majors". He will never hit 19.

I feel good about this. The greatest player ever to play the game has been and will continue to be Jack Nicklaus.

Thank you Miss Nordgren.

Diatribe -part II
If Steve Williams ever comes to get my camera .... he can kiss my ***. Tiger needs to get a handle on his bagboy.

Diatribe part III
I hit the new TaylorMade R7 driver today in a short round. I had the weights set to compensate for a couple of swing flaws (like no distance) and I can only tell you this driver not only looks beautiful when you stand over it (high gloss black) but it hits extremely nice. I just ordered one and my 975 is going to the closet. My buddy says it's way better than the 983 also. The R7 has a 1 degree closed face which automatically gives you a fair shot at a nice draw without manipulating your hands. Just swing it.

You may be right about Tiger, and I don't really even care one way or another. I will say this, though -- if he figures out what everyone else already knows, which is that he can't fix his game all by himself, then watch out. I don't think there have been very many athletes who have had the capacity to dominate their sport not only physically but mentally the way he can when he puts it all together.

I bought the R7 about 3 weeks ago and it is awesome. As for Tiger being done. I agree that at the moment he is not #1. I wonder WTF he was thinking in trying to change his swing again anyway. That is like taking the Mona Lisa and trying to paint a rack of silicone injected titties on it because you think you can make it better. Nope. Why is he messing with what was the most perfect swing the game has seen? Now if he can get that back then he would be fine. He still is the best short game and putter. He now just doesn't hit any fairways nor does he hit his irons close. He may be too stubborn to put it together again like he did in 2000, but I won't bet against him just yet. Everyone was ready to write off Phil last year, but am off season of work on his swing and he is probably the best player in the world right now.

Wondering out loud with this .. I wonder if Tiger's knee injury and surgery last year are the reason for his swing change? Perhaps he was putting too much torque on it with his old swing and that is why he is trying to make the change. We don't know of course becasue he doesn't talk about it, but that is the only logical reason I can see.

his little tiff with Harmon isn't doing him any good either.... it has been all downhill for Tiger lately... knee + fired swing coach + engagement = disaster...

and the sad thing is that Tiger is so good that even when he is playing terrible it is still better than 50% of the field...

he'll be back.. just wait and see. It may take some time but I absolutely 100% gaurantee that he will completely dominate the feild again... and your mark me down as saying that too.

Once he realizes whatever he's trying to do isn't working .. he'll seek help and will be back on track.

Tiger is better than Jack ever was, but Tiger only did it for about 3.5 years. During those 3.5 years he would have beaten Jack like a drum, even in Jack's prime with the same equipment.

I also think that sooner or later he'll admit to himself that he needs help and he'll either reconcile with Harmon or find someone else. He'll also ditch the Nike clubs.

I think suttree is correct. But, I also think the same was true for Tom Watson and Johny Miller. They had an intense period of greatness and were better than Jack during that time (by a good amount). Overall, however, Jack maintained an amazing high level of play for what seemed like forever (especially at the majors).

One little factoid missing from comparisons of Jack vs Tiger is that Jack not only won 18 majors, but he finished 2nd another 19 times.

One little comparison missing is the relative competition faced during Jack's era compared to Tiger's competition. Nicklaus competed against Palmer, Player, Trevino, Watson, Weiskopf etc. These gentlemen combined have close to 26 majors. Pick any 5 of Tiger's competition over the past 6 years and tell me their major count. It won't reach 10.

When Tiger has 19 majors and 19 runnerups (or not) - then you can tell me he is greater than Jack. I'm willing to wait another decade.

Yeah, but 11 of Jack's 2nds were after age 28 (Tiger's age). ANd it's not fair to tote up the majors totals of Tiger's opponents yet; wait another twenty years or so. Who knows how many majors Els, Phil, Vijay et al will have? It's arguable about the strength of the tour at the top. I'd certainly put my money on any of the above mentioned before Weiskopf. But the tour from number twenty on down or so is much, much more competitive today than back then.

he got the boris becker syndrome, pure and simple.

remember how good boris becker was, and then he got engaged, and i'll be damed if a damn alien ufo didn't come down and kidnap him off to some distant planet. you never heard from the guy again.

women will suck the life out of you. for most athtetes in team sports, the suckage isn't noticeable because their play is lost in team game.

HOWEVER, for individual sports, falling in love and getting engaged is the kiss of death.

it happened with andre, ivan, samprass, jeff bagwell, and now tiger.

AND MARK MY WORDS, IT WILL HAPPEN TO LANCE ARMSTRONG. CHERYL CROW WILL BE THE DEATH OF ARMSTRONGS TOUR REIGN.

There you go Tiger. He posted a -6 for the day and is now -4 for the tourny. Awesome round, and he he actually hit fairways and greens, it was crazy.

Yep. Barbara really screwed Jack's career. No telling how many majors he would have won if he didn't have that damned family.

And let's not overlook Winnie Palmer and Vivienne Player. Both sucking the very soul out of their respective husbands. Who knows, without them Arnold Palmer and Gary Player might even be household names.

In fact, I've heard that Tom Kite wakes up and kicks Christy in the *** every morning for costing him the 1989 US Open.

And don't even get me started on Valerie Hogan.

So he can't find a fairway--if I was engaged to the Nordic Combined, I don't think I could find the front door!

I just hope he doesn't devolve into paralysis by analysis. If he's analyzing his swing plane just a scintilla of how much the rest of the world is, then he's in trouble. Players can win with "bad" swings, and they can lose with "good" ones. To me, it's more about rhythm, balance, and ball-striking.

The only question in my mind on the whole Jack/Tiger thing is will he stay in the game long enough to go after Jack's standard. I'll be surprised if he does; but man, how lucky will we have been to watch that battle. Pick your poison on who's better--Jack probably had more prime competitors, but the field of who can win a major is decidedly deeper in Tiger's era.

The fact that he's been able to stay fairly competitive despite his sloppy driving ought to tell you he's got at least a little game.
