One more reason to like Mark Cuban

He's had his problems with Trump in the past. What he likes about Trump is that Trump is changing the game. Everybody else is bending to conform.

I get that, but I think it's silly to suggest that he's good for politics.

Ex2000, I've been a Mavs fan since the team was founded. Comparing Cuban's basketball acumen to that of previous Mavs owners would be like comparing the sex appeal of Jennifer Anniston to that of Kathy Bates.

as an old guy I can recall the second race between Ike and Stevenson. There have been others where both men were very capable, very thoughtful men.

Now we have people quoting comic blowhards such as Cuban and Trump.

God or someone like him needs to lend some assistance as this barrel nears the falls.

Of course, I wasn't around in 1956, but I just compare what we have today with what we had in 1988. Bush 41 and Michael Dukakis were more capable and thoughtful than the freak shows we have now.

Yes, the pre-Cuban Mavericks were spectacularly painful to watch. There was promise with Jim Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, and Jason Kidd, until they found out they were all banging the same chick. That ruined things until Cuban took over.

As a Rockets fan, I'm just joshing. He's done spectacularly well with the Mavs.

I like him on Sharktank.

How did it get this way? Has our culture become so superficial and driven by the "popular" media that our political process no longer attracts people of high character?

Maybe there are high character types in office and they just don't rise to the surface. I think many of us are just so hungry for someone who will earn our trust and respect. I wonder if that is possible any more in the current system.

I think the younger generation is also not very interested in politics. My daughter turns 18 next year and she could care less about the upcoming election. I've tried to stress the importance of understanding the world you live in and how you can make a difference by getting involved and casting your vote. Unfortunately, she and her friends care more about selfies, fashions, and who said what about whom in high school. This generation only appreciates the likes of reality television. Must be why Trump is so high up in the polls thus far. It's entertaining.

People of high character usually don't act like staunch ideologues. They are solutions-driven, and they don't spend most of their time demonizing the opposition. Well, unfortunately the voters don't reward that kind of politician. With the polarization of the political parties and the country in general, voters reward candidates who reinforce their biases and demonize their opponents, and that tends to be sleazy people.
