Onboard Cam inside Rally Car

Loeb is the best in the world and has many titles to prove it. Here is an onboard view from the inside of his car. You even get to hear his co-driver giving him instructions of what the road ahead brings. They get one test run to take notes and mark details for their full speed go at it.

Insane.

I hope you have not seen this before, Mandingo. In fact, the WRC youtube channel is boss.

Here he is in the snow of Norway. Got damn he is flying.

Outstanding.

I'll see you those and raise you one Petter Solberg (my other favorite rally driver) in the mountains over Monte Carlo, and him and his co-driver walking away from one of the worst crashes I've ever seen:

Those hinkelsteins were put there to stop tanks, and apparently go 3m into the ground. Every time the Subaru came down, it landed on one of them.

Did you catch the 10 Worst Rally Crashes show right before the WRC coverage on Thursday night?

Wow.

Yup, it was amazing. And those dudes walk out of it. F1 and Rally do a lot to help our cars be much safer for sure.

I try to watch the crash links on youtube but can only watch so many, as spectacular as they are. I like the slides and jumps much more. I think I prefer the onboard cam for a crash. All of a sudden, THUD!

Thanks for the links, nice. Sol is a class act. I don't have an absolute favorite driver right now so it is Loeb by default, I guess. It is likely to be the Spaniard, Danny if I had to name one.

Solberg's Co is so calm sounding and matter of fact. Loebs surely is too but I guess being in French makes it seem like more of a panic going on. Not understanding it helps with that perception too.

Hey loop, did you catch the Australian V8 Supercars from Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi? I just watched my DVR of it, that I recorded on SPEED over the weekend. Excellent coverage by those guys and they do some cool things with the cameras, like an amazing undercar shot that really shows very well how the front suspension works on the road course.

Also, that is just one amazing facility...saw it when it opened last season for F1. Just stunning. Truly state of the art.

No, I did not see that. I hope there is a rebroadcast of it. I will check that tomorrow and set DVR for it. I sort of forgot about Speed with HD Theater doing such a good job.

As always, thank you for the heads up and info. You have turned me on to so much and pointed out angles I would not have thought to look at. I appreciate it muchly.

You're welcome!

There's a lot to watch out there in the world of racing that most American race fans never see, and I know what you mean about SPEED being easy to forget. That network is a mere shadow of what it was before Fox took it over, but they do still have some good stuff, like ALMS & LeMans (next best type to F1 & WRC, imho), Aussie V8s, the Rolex Series, FIM bikes, MotoGP I believe, German Touring Cars, and of course F1. But now for the most part they're the NASCAR channel and have dropped a lot of the really great worldwide stuff that made them so great before, replacing it with ad nauseum crap shows like Pinks and Bull Run, and more and more NASCAR coverage. I believe they used to cover Dakar extensively and I know they had the WRC. They had all kinds of cool and different stuff, and there was always good racing to be watched on SPEED.

Me and some of my fireman buddies keep saying they should just split the channel in two, creating a full-time NASCAR channel, since that's what they'd obviously really like to do, and then have a channel that's like what SPEEDVISION originally was. I believe both channels would do exceptionally well. When we keep seeing all this great racing content popping up everywhere else, like the WRC, Baja, and Isle of Man on HD theatre, the great documentary "Baja: Dust to Glory", which was shown on FUEL's (also owned by Fox) Insane Cinema, and the amazing LeMans documentary "Truth in 24" which was a download on iTunes, it really is an indictment of the job SPEED is doing, imho.

mandino,
My wife's uncle just got a job as a road instructor at Yas Marina. He has been employed at the track in Dubai, and I think wanted to do something different when he went back over there.
I need to go do some track time over there for sure!

He's a lucky man for sure...are you saying he's a racing instructor there?

If you can take advantage of that connection to get some track time, you certainly BETTTER...and take me along too!!!

Mandingo,
Yea, I just talked to the wife. He is instructing in Dubai and at Yas Marina. He does do driving instruction there. I am assuming it is about like at Dubai, where you pay for a race experience. Anything from a full day of instruction, to just a few hot laps with a instructor sitting in the passenger seat next to you.
He was actually an extra driver in the movie The Kingdom, but never could get a Screen Actors Guild Card to be 'in' on the stunt driving scene in CA.
He race(d)(s) spec 944s and usually was the fastest driver on his circuit in the Western US. He is a good driver, but just semi pro I guess I would say.
