On track for record breaking season

I am going with my memory here, and I hope I am wrong, but it appears to me, in just her first year as a Texas head coach, Karen Aston is already in the history books, having broken three program records:

the longest losing streak In Texas WCBB history at 7 games and growing,
the worst start in Big 12 play at 0-5,
the longest conference losing streak at 5 games.

I hope these records never get broken again, but fear they could be broken in Norman on Saturday and again in Lawrence next Wednesday.

Which of the following records do you think will not be broken this season?

Lowest home game attendance for a season in program history?
Highest number of turnovers per game in program history?
Lowest assist to turnover ratio in program history?
Highest number of players quitting the team in a season in program history?
Worst win/loss record in program history?
Worst margin of defeat in program history? (Baylor could easily beat this team by 50 in Waco, but Mulkey and Aston are friends and it is in Mulkey's best interests for Aston to keep her job, so KM will probably empty her bench early??)

For those of you saying Aston will be here for a long time, how bad does it have to get? One winless season in the Big 12 (Perish the thought), two winless seasons?

I would have thought all of these things were unimaginable, except they are starting to unfold before my eyes.

This precipitous slide needs to stop now. The coaches and the team need to find a way to win in Norman on Saturday. Please . . .

The current state of the program is shocking. In the early stages of this growing losing streak, I really thought the team was close to turning this around and being a team to be reckoned with during Big 12 play. I was wrong.

I was dissatisfied with the state of the program last season but never dreamed it could get this bad. We are the 9th or 10th best team in the conference and right now, there's nothing that gives me hope we can change that this season.

It's just hard to believe how far this once-great program has fallen. And it's depressing to think a turnaround may be nowhere in sight. Key players are leaving. Other key players (e.g. Chassidy) look like they've lost the fire in their eyes. The stands are emptying by the game (and were almost empty to begin the season). Even this board has only a handful of posters. The men's board has also gone stagnant, like our basketball programs.

Since Aston is a bargain (salary-wise) she'll absolutely be given more time to try to turn this around. If it were a men's team, it would be different. But women's sports simply don't mean as much to the University and therefore, mediocrity (or worse) is allowed to linger for years.

Given how much success our ladies track & volleyball have had / are having, I'm not sure it's fair to paint a general picture of that half of Texas sports as being mired in mediocrity and not caring about it.

Statalyzer you're basically contradicting what you posted on another thread concerning our women's athletic programs. Volleyball is the shining star of both men's and women's athletics at UT. Thankfully we have one of the best coaches in the country and he's paid at or near the top of his field. Amazing what a great coach can do for a program.

Maybe Aston will be that type of coach in a few years. But man -- it's going to be painful getting there based on what we've seen so far.
