Olympic golf...and rugby

The sad thing is that in order to get these two sports in, softball had to go.

I agree with lostman even though I am not convinced that softball and baseball had to go. I have nothing against adding golf even though I think the participation expected will turn out to be a disappointment. Rugby just goes to show that Europe owns the Olympics especially England.
It would be great if we boycotted the Olympics for what they did to softball and baseball because without the Americans it would hurt them financially and the victories would be more hollow. However this would be unfair to our athletes that train hard for these Olympics and we don't want to pull a Jimy Carter of 1980.

I don't see how professional golfers add anything to the Olympics, wouldn't it just be another tournament? But I feel that way about all the professionalism in the Olympics, so I suppose it really isn't anything different than basketball and many other of the sports.

US is the reigning rugby Olympic champions. We won the gold when it was last played in 1924. We also won gold in 1920.

Don't think we have much of a chance this time

When I worked at USA Rugby the consensus was always that we did extremely well for an amateur country. At the time I was there I think only 3 or 4 of our national team actually played overseas for professional clubs. The guys that play on the team really sacrifice a career to pursue their passion of that sport.

Rugby is somewhat fun to watch.
It's a shame about the softball decision, I was hoping to see Cat Osterman one more time in the Olympics. Women's boxing? I don't think so.

Wouldn't it be South Africa or New Zealand, not England, that would be the metal favorites in Rugby?

Besides, the games in 2016 are headed for Rio, are they not? (at least they should be).
