I'm sick of it.
I used to enjoy Olympic Boxing so much and not just because the USA was so good (I'll touch on that in a minute here). I simply hate the scoring now and I hate that I almost get to the point of outrage every day when watching the coverage.
Now...About the USA.
First is that I do believe that there is a bias against either the USA or the style of USA fighters. The USA only gets one ref for such a large area and wide array of people while there are so many refs from Europe. If refs judge their style better than ours then we are inherently fighting an uphill battle because we don't fight the kind of style that so many of the judges appreciate. I realize that Cuba doing so well does present a problem to my argument however these Cubans are seasoned fighters and have more experience fighting internationally and know what to do before European judges.
Secondly though is that I think Pro Boxing has ruined boxing in the USA. I havent followed professional boxing for years now. It started with never being able to see the fights because of ridiculous pay-per-view prices that carried the risk of lasting only a few minutes for the main event. Now because people are seeing less and less of boxing on TV the public simply doesnt even know the personalities of boxers and therefore has no rooting interest even if it's on TV.
USA Boxing is a shell of it's former self and I find that very depressing because we have such a proud tradition in the sport.
