Dang, I hate this board overloading due to the football board traffic. Lost a couple of posts. Here’s one I will repeat.

Ole Miss is 6-0 with a game on Thursday against SE Louisiana standing in the way of having two 7-0 teams meeting Sunday in Oxford, Miss. Shawn Goff, their outstanding 6-3 shotblocker, has is rounding back into form after missing the first three games due to illness. She is the leading scorer per average at 11.7 ppg and has ten blocks in 3 games while the second leading shot blocker (there are two) has 4 blocks in ten games. Goff should present another excellent challenge to our post players.

Me too! Lost some posts, that is! Should be a good game at Ole Miss. We need some tough road games before conference opens.

Nope, I'm not familiar with any of their opponents. Maybe someone is:

North Carolina A&T 80-64
Davidson 55-50
Louisiana Lafayette 74-48
Memphis 84-63
Alcorn St. 63-40
Nicholls 83-32

The games continue to get tougher. Ole Miss, although picked 8th in the 12 team SEC, is 7-0 this season. Like the Horns, they depend on tough D to win. They have an outstanding blocker in the middle in 6-3 Sr. Shawn Goff. She is joined in the post by 6-4 Fr. F Nikki Byrd. Gs Biana Thomas (5-10 Jr.), Alliesha Easley (5-8 Soph), and Shantell Black (5-4 Jr.) complete the starting lineup for the Rebs. Goff is the leading scorer at 13.8 ppg while Thomas is the second leading scorer at 12.3 ppg. Easley is at 9.8 ppg. Seven others average between 4 and 7 ppg. Goff is averaging 3.0 blocks per game. Byrd has five blocks in seven games. Goff is also the leading rebounder with 7 per game while Thomas and Byrd each average 5.1 rpg. Black is second in the conference with 6 assists per game.Nine players have gone to the FT line at least 11 times with Thomas (23 FTA), Easley (22 FTA) and Kayla Melson (20 FTA) the ones with the most attempts. They average 69.7% as a team from FT line. Thomas (7-27, 25.9%) and Elisabeth Robertson 9-31, 29%) have taken 58 of the teams’s 91 3s. Easley (4-11, 36.4%) and Black (4-10, 40%) are the more accurate shooters from BTA.

As a team, the Rebs have 13 players on the roster and 10 play at least 15 minutes a game while another averages 9.7 mpg. They average 44% from the field while holding opponents to 32.5%. Ole Miss is average from BTA at 31% but stifles opponents who manage to make only 25% of their 3s. They dominate on the boards with a plus 15 rebounding margin.

The Ole Miss Rebels have won seven straight this season, with wins over Lousiana-Lafayette, Davidson, and Memphis their top wins.

The Ole Miss game story is up. They offer video at $39.95 for the season. Didn’t see an option for a trial period, month, etc.

The Horns are led by Brit at 17.3 ppg, Kat at 13.3 ppg and Erika at 11.4 ppg. Seven others average between 4 and 8 ppg. All eleven players average between 11 and 23 minutes per game. Brit, Lindsey, Carla, and Earnie have started all seven games while Erika and Kat have taken turns starting. While the Rebs have one strong blocker in Goff, the Horns counter with two—Lindsey (2.6 bpg) and Gayle (2.7 bpg). Advantage: Horns. Kat leads in rebounding with 6.9 rpg and seven others average between 3.4 and 5.3 rpg. While most attention is focused on Kat (9-26, 34.6%) and Erika (13-37, 35.1%) and rightfully so, both Brit (7-16, 43.8%) and Earnie (5-7, 71.4%) are serious threats from BTA. Yvonne (3-8, 37.5%) has also demonstrated a good shooting touch from BTA. As a team, the Horns are hitting 38% of their 3s. Brit (76 FGA), Erika (75 FGA) and Kat (56 FGA) are the most likely to shoot but the rest have taken between 18 and 39 shots. Everyone will take an open shot without hesitation. Seven players are hitting over 50% of their FGs, led by Brit (57.9%), Earnie (58.3%) and Lindsey (56.8%). The team is hitting 50.4% of their FGs. They have also been dominant on the boards, with a plus 13 rebound margin.

The Horns’ best wins to date have been over Old Dominion and Georgia Tech. They face Tennessee and Arizona State after the meeting with Mississippi.

There is not TV for this game. Old Miss does offer online video but the best offer seems be signing up for a year at $39.99. Couldn't find anything for less.

In the Austin area, the game will be on KVET 98.1 FM instead of 1300AM. It will also be on XM Satellite Radio Ch. 231

The teams have a short although long history with the Horns leading 4-1 although Ole Miss won the last game in 1988. Although both are 7-0, Texas is ranked in both polls, 9th in the AP and 6th in the coaches. Ole Miss is not ranked nor listed as receiving votes.

A review of the team stats shows that both are similar in many categories. Still, the Horns have an advantage in several important categories. They lead in FG% (50.4-44.3); 3pt % (38.3-30.8); turnover margin (+6 to +0.4) and blocks (7.1-4.0). While both teams use 11 players, the Horns have better talent in the post and in 3pt shooters. If Goff gets into foul trouble, the Rebs are in trouble. If they leave any of five Horns open on the perimeter, they will see a 3 going in. This should be a game where both teams run and play tough defense. It’s hard to say if this is going to be a defensive gem or an offensive show. Given both teams’ defensive prowess, I would guess that defense will carry the game, at least initially. This could end up a very ugly win for one of the teams. The Horns will have a definite height advantage on the perimeter with Kat and Erika. With their constant movement, they could get open 3s off of screens constantly. I think the Horns snap the Rebels win streak by 10-15 pts due to better overall talent. It won’t be easy because Mississippi is playing very well on both ends.

Game tied 12-12 with 11:50 to play in the 1st half.

Early foul trouble for our post players. Williams, Lindsay and Gayle all have 2 fouls.

Yes the horns are up at the half 36-29. Sloppy start to the game for the horns, combined with whistle-happy refs. Both teams turned the ball over a lot -- 14 turnovers for both teams in the 1st half.

Texas cleaned it up and ended the half on a nice run. The bench did a good job when the starters got in foul trouble. Aubry Cook has really defended well in the post off the bench.

Leading scorers are Kat with 7 and Erika with 6.

Great start for the Horns, up 42-29 with a 6-0 run to start the second half.

74-50 Horns win.

Tough start in the first half but our reserves really played well, especially Aubry, Ashleigh, and Yvonne. Horns simply pulled away in the second half.

With Tenn coming with a lot of height inside, this was a great game for our post players. Tenn is bigger and has more depth in the post. I don't think their guards are going to be quicker than ours.

Great win, Horns!

8-0. man, i'm loving the team this year! our bench especially. we have players from top to bottom that can come in and score or make a defensive stop. whatever is needed to keep the momentum in our favor. and while on the road this year they seem to start a little slow and sloppy, coach g knows how to get it done in the locker room at halftime. i think she does a great job of firing them up and helping them make the adjustments necessary in the 2nd half.

i can't wait for the tennessee game!!!
