OL Mike Grandy Retires

Here is what our Depth Chart looks like. That is 13 bodies, if we have injuries we are done. We have 3 seniors and we should be carrying 18 linemen. We should be signing 4 or 5 high school guys and 3 jucos.

Samuel Cosmi FR RS
Calvin Anderson GT
Derek Kerstetter So
J.P. Urquidez So
Zach Shackelford Jr
Tope Imade So
Denzel Okafor Jr
Patrick Vahe Sr
Reese Moore Fr
Junior Angilau Fr
Rafiti Ghirmai Fr
Patrick Hudson So
Elijah Rodriguez Sr

BTW - I think our starters are going to be good, but I'm worried about the backups and injuries.

Here is my impression of who will be starting
LT - Calvin Anderson
LG - Patrick Vahe
C - Zach Shackelford
RG - Patrick Hudson
RT - Derek Kerstetter
Outside of those 5 guys we can rely on Denzel Okafor and maybe Sam Cosmi. Don't know after that.

I only think Kerstetter gets the nod at RT because he played there last year, but the goal is to eventually move him to one of the interior positions so that guys like Urquidez and Cosmi can get more time at T.

Vahe will finish his career as a 4-year starter with no real accolades to his name, which shows how low the public's view of our OL has gotten since the 2005-06 days. It all started with McWhorter screwing the pooch and missing out on key OL guys, leading to the Searels and Wickline (the walking lawsuit) disasters.

I keep reading about all the talking up of our 19' class yet there's very little beef. We aren't in a 7/7 league. Where's the beef?

I believe this was one of the biggest factors in Mack's decline, unbalanced classes due to disproportionate recruiting, and the fact McWhorter couldn't recruit a 2 star from Anderson High.

Rodriguez too and I expect one freshman to step up

Boy do we need Ol Johnson, Shepherd, and about 3 more bodies. I know that's not earth shattering news but I am sure the coaches are doing their best to make that happen. I know that there are many colleges to choose from but those 5stars and 4stars could get EPT on our team...just sayin.:soapbox:

It's unbelievable how we can't catch a break on the O-line. All I'm asking for is a normal average line with normal average depth. Is that so much? That would be a huge upgrade and set this program in motion. An elite line would be a very strange feeling at this point. We've been living with this for too long.

If I were coach, i would lay off the db crop a little and try to land 3 or 4 more OL next year. I know its the Big XII, but how many db and s do we need?

The top OL don't want to play for a meanie like Herman. They'd rather play for Saban, Meyer, et al. You know, the nice, coddling guys.
