I think there are a lot of folks that share your reasoning SabreHorn. His claim that OU's death was like Nebraska's fascinated me. I still remember those great NU teams and have fallen for the NU back too many times, most recently with Frost. Heck, it looks like Colorado may get it together and they gave up on football decades ago.
I disagree. But, I'm not objective and I can admit that. Joe C. is an all star and I'll take my chances with the young talent we have on campus. Recruiting rankings don't mean everything but they mean a little and we improved our recruiting under BV in the midst of losing a future 2 time Heisman winner to LA. Schmidt did amazing things under Stoops and he's now been here 18 months. The meat in the middle should look a little different this year.I do not like Cowherd, don't know if he has a show or a website. He has always been irrelevant to me. I do, however, agree with his conclusion if not his reasoning. I like OU as a rival. I told Barry several years ago that there is no one I'd rather beat than him, but unlike other Texas fans, I wanted him to only lose one game a year because I wanted it to stick in his gut that we were his only loss.
I have the utmost respect and admiration for Dr Boren. Linc Riley saw the handwriting on the wall. Without Dr Boren, OU was likely to be far less of a force. The new guy can't carry Dr Boren's coffee cup.
Throw in Venables as HC, and there shouldn't be much of a rivalry. I expect OU to become a middle of the pack also ran
Good points, Bubba. The Sooners should benefit from a fairly easy schedule this year. And I think OU made a good hire with BV. But, as you said, it takes time to see the results of (1) recruiting top talent, (2) developing that talent in the college game, and (3) developing individual talent into a cohesive team. Time will tell - and both fanbases (Texas and OU) need to be a bit patient going into the SEC.We also got a sweet going away gift this year with a very nice looking schedule. So, even if we look to have "returned" this season I want to see what it looks like 25-26 before I fully "believe". Right now it's just faith.
Building a good locker room is easier with 2-3 stars. Managing 5 stars is more challenging. That’s what is impressive to me about Saban. He gets 4-5 stars to be hungry like 2 stars.Good points, Bubba. The Sooners should benefit from a fairly easy schedule this year. And I think OU made a good hire with BV. Good to have you back on the board - hope you'll stick around.
