Okay, no good bbq in Dallas

So what's the best of the worst? Heading to the folks place out in Wylie for a week, but wanted to try some places. The last few times I've been home, I've hit

Sammy's - wasn't bad. was dissapointed for it being in the top 3 of everyone's list.
Sonny Bryan's - is to BBQ what Wendy's is to the burger.
Spring Creek BBq - It's been a long time since I've been here, but remember it being alright.
Dickeys - see sonny bryan's.

Folks are out in Wylie, so fort worth would be tough, but anwywhere else in the Dallas metroplex would be great.

It's a bit of a drive from Wylie (about an hour) but at least it's on the same side of the metroplex. Clark's BBQ Outpost in Tioga is pretty good.

I consider myself to be a pretty good judge of bbq and big daddy's doesn't do a lot for me, but is better than most around.
I do like the sauce but imo good bbq doesn't need sauce. I'd say if you're driving down 78 or in the neighborhood somewhere it's worth a shot but I wouldn't go out of my way.

It is better than any of the places you had mentioned trying in the past. I hate Dickey's. Sonny Bryan's was plain awful last time I went. Sammy's and Spring Creek are ok on some days...Sammy's more so than SC.

I need to try Baker's Brothers again since Texas Monthly seemed to like it. I only went once, a long time ago and wasn't that impressed but I'll give it another go this week while I'm in town. Red, Hot and Blue is decent probably better than Spring Creek and Sammy's on the right day.

Pretty much since I started going to Lockhart when in the mood for bbq everything else is ruined for me...but I'm ok with that.

Big Daddy's is the best in that part of town. Now that doesn't put it up there in any all time great list since there really isn't much out there. But it's not that bad.

Anyone try the place on Main Street in Euless. I'm not from around there, but it was a significant improvement over my previous attempts to locate good bbq in the Metroplex.

Hit Big Daddy's. It was solid.
Brisket was great and the hot links were good. Sausage was a little weak.
Sides - creamy potato salad was good, as were both variety of beans. Sauce was good too (if you're into that kind of thing).

Dallas BBQ is the suck. Period.

IMHO the only decent Q in my area lies outside of Dallas County. Railhead in Fort Worth is decent. As mentioned above, Main Street in Euless is the best of the lot, not open alot though.

Sonny Bryans has gone to hell. It used to be great, now it sucks. I still go there, but can only get the sandwiches to cover up their fatty *** brisket in bread and sauce. Dickey's is inedible. East coast based chains like Red Hot and Blue are just heretical.

Central Texas is just the mecca and anytime you spend there will destroy you for the crap around here. If you want good brisket in Dallas, go to Costco, grab a packer and a case of beer. Reserve ten hours on a Saturday and enjoy.

Drive over to FW.

Anyone been to Johnny's (I think) in Salado? I heard someone on the radio raving about that place. I lived in Irving for 5 years and couldn't find any good bbq anywhere in the metroplex.

If you drive to FW for barbeque, you go to ANGELO'S, not RAILHEAD.

Railhead is the most overrated crap on earth, and I won't rest until the entire BBQ world agrees with me.

Railhead is WAY over rated. Angelo's is good, but David's in PANTEGO, on Park Row is the best BBQ in the Metroplex.

Also, if you are going to be hear Salado know Johnny's is overrated. If you are going to be in Bell Co. there are 2 places that are really good. Maurice's in Killeen on Business 190, and Schoepf's in Belton. Schoepf's is just off of I35 on the eastern edge of Downtown Belton.

I always felt the same way and was really surprised how few good BBQ places there were - and more, how many Dallasites seemed to actually LIKE Spring Creek, Sonny Bryan's, et al.

I did like Risky's in FW at the stock yards - good place for all you can eat ribs. I really should have looked harder for the hole in the wall places out there. Ironically, now that I'm in Vegas, there is a Salt Lick franchise open at Red Rock casino that's better than anything I ever had in Dallas.

Dallas is full of Yankees and other transplants who think they can fit in by eating at Spring Creek and Dicky's.....

Hard Eight BBQ is the best I've found... Reminds me of Coopers... You walk up to the pit and pickout what you want.... The Turkey Poppers are awesome!!! Bite sized turkey stuffed with Jalepenos and wrapped in Bacon....

Used to go to North Main, but I moved out of the Dallas area. The BBQ was pretty good, especially considering it was a "pitch 'til you win" place. I agree the ribs were very good -- that seemed to be their specialty (and they had the trophies to prove it)
I always chuckled about the cashiers at the end of the line, with their big rolls of bills. I always wondered how much actually got reported as income.

I agree with THEU regarding Schoepf's. I daresay it compares to Coopers Llano on its best day; and having grown up in the Belton/Temple area I ate a LOT of Schoepfs.

Whoever said Clarks in Tioga must not have been there in years. That place changed ownership and is not the same, at all.

Clark's is definitely not the place it was prior to the owner's death.

Sadly, best your going to get in the DFW is the Rudy's in Frisco. And it is not very good.
