OK, I'll say it. Almost everyone is thinking it

This is the worst Texas Baseball team in a decade.

We are ranked on tradition and program name alone.

If we make the post season, it will be by that same tradition and name recognition that gets us there. And our early exit will further tarnish that same tradition and program name.

There is very little looking at the performance so far to feel we are going to improve this year. Everytime it can't get worse...it gets way worse.

At least since Augie's first couple of years...this is the low point. There are some good kids on the team and they deserve our continued support, but by and large....we suck. We need to accept it and maybe readjust our expectations for this season....but get pissed off and make some changes in the way we approach the games. Sit every freaking starter if necessary for a complete series. Shake it up. Quit sending the same folks out who are not in a mental position to get the job done. Quit doing "this one change here...one change there" crap that does nothing positive. Tweaking is for solid teams and nipples. Our **** is broke. We need more than a tweak.

The most frustrating thing to me is the way Augie monotonely continues to respond to every *** kicking the same. Now, before you over zealous freaks want to compare my number of national championships vs his...which I wouldn't argue....think about this.

When he first got here he did a very poor job. He even admitted he did a poor job by being hard headed about things. Only after he had to change some of the ways he approached the game here because there was heat on HIS *** did the team respond. After he changed...we improved and got better. He needs to quit acting like every loss and every win are the same and that being so consistent in his demeanor is helping. If insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result, the man running the show is in danger of the padded cell. Again...mainly talking about his insistance NOT to kick somebody's ***. Even the best have to reinvent themselves sometimes. He is either being hard headed again...or has become complacent. Mirror time.

This is the 3rd year of consistently worse Baseball in our program. Is it poor recruiting compared to years past? Is it poor talent evaluation compared to years past? Is it poor player devolopment compared to years past? Is it poor game management compared to years past? Is it a combination of all 4 that equals poor coaching compared to years past? This is a trend. A bad one.

I find it nearly impossible that the TEXAS baseball program can't find 3 kids that can field a ground ball cleanly and throw it to first. There are enough ex-high school players in the student body alone that could field with a better percentage than this group. I'd be willing to bet that me, you, and the two fat guys from the church league could fare as well on turf if they let us bring a cooler into the dugout. I know for damned sure we wouldn't be much worse...I dare you to argue that.

Augie...option 1...Either chalk this season up as gone and start playing other folks to try to find some leaders for the future...cuz that is mainly what we've lacked over the past 3 years are those in your face, clutch performers who got a little irritated about losing a single game in a series...much less losing series' altogether. .500 or worse in Big XII is unacceptable here and quit drolly explaining about running into buzz saws and ****, cuz we ain't buying it (nor should we)... and you must admit we suck, apologize and fix it for next year...or

Option 2. Admit this has been a disaster and a poor coaching job, but we can fix it now. Give us hope. Wake up the team. Take it personally that your team is a mess and the show a pulse and determine who on this team can come in NOW and give us a spark. If it means starting a walk on and admitting you picked the wrong transfers so be it. If it means sitting the mendosa line batting former long ball champ...so be it. It may mean hurting some parents feelings...but hell...this ain't little league and quit treating repeat offenders like they are 12, because they are gonna keep playing like 12 year olds.

But mainly, for God's sake and the sake of us out here who have blindly supported for many years... show a sign of life!!! Demonstrate that it still means something to you to either win or lose here...that YOU still care about OUR program we have entrusted to YOU. Right now, I see a man playing out the hand with the passion of a narcoleptic accountant. Make a change....turn the wheel...we are off course.

I don't know, we seem to have some big name guys out there. They're just not playing well. Next year, we have a great class as well.

Maybe Augie's head isn't into it, but he is not at the Jody stage yet.

Lancehorn,
Well said. I've been trying to state the same thing in my last few posts, but couldn't come up with the words. I totally agree, but I'm doubtful many changes will be made. I took my family to Omaha 4 years in a row between 2002-2005, and was ready in 2006. No need to carve that time out in June anymore. Oh well, gas is too expensive now. ($1.30/gallon in 2005)

The thing is, after winning a NC in 2005 we should be loaded with the kind of recruits that want to play on a successful team. That was just three years ago and those outstanding recruits should be today's premiere players.

I am very disappointed in our pitching staff. I don’t see any improvement with any of our pitchers from one appearance to the next. I don’t think our pitching coach is doing a very good job of teaching these guys how to pitch

It is for sure not a player talent issue. It starts with chemistry from the top down. Coaching as much or more than anything.

difficult to call Augie out, but he does seem a little more 'complacent' or something. sounds like hes kind of mailing it in. he's quite 'calm' to begin with, but he seems dif. this year.

Sounds like you guys are the ones mailing it in. Augie is at least talking about trying to improve and be a strong team in the postseason. Some of you sound like you are giving up completely, which is not the Longhorn way.

Maybe after the way Texas got screwed last year, Augie has taken the "it doesn't really matter what seed you get" approach.

By the way, do you guys even remember that the 2005 team went 16-10 in the conference and had to travel for supers? Didn't stop them.

All I will say is there is a lot of baseball left to be played.

I will not give up on this team yet.

A couple of points from someone who has seen a bunch of teams play this year. Everyone is down. The lack of practice time brought about by the condensed schedule really hurts the quality of ball being played. Even the current top 10 teams have multiple 5 error games this season. If we just consider the Texas powers you will understand my point. Baylor- off the radar, A$M ranked but has only spent two weekends out of town and has played really crummy teams for the most part. They have been able to practice though, Rice- playing well now, but they too have had their moments and some of the Owls fans were ready to jump off the ship as late as Monday, then the Horns. Texas has had to make significant changes to the lineup. Ordinarily Augie has time to work out theses changes in practice, but everything must be done on the field this season and many of the new guys have simply not performed as expected. This caused more juggling and more learning on the fly. As to the pitching, only those teams playing really weak slates have survived this season. Texas always had good pitching, but it was not very deep and adding another 9 innings per week really stretched the staff to a breaking point. I would say that we manage our expectations about this season and treat it as a learning experience.
