Looks like McHale wanted Love but needed to draft Mayo with #3 pick and then had to take whatever deal he could get in a trade. Wasn't a huge secret I bet in the NBA draft rooms.

Because he got Mike Miller and managed to dump Marko Jaric's contract by taking Mayo and then trading for Love.

This is an interesting deal because of the salaries. I still think it was a bad trade for Minnesota because of Mayo's superstar potential, but they improved their cap situation and they got some needed outside shooting from Miller. I don't think Love is a stiff by any means, but there seemed to be a big drop off after Mayo in the draft. Memphis has been trying to dump Miller's and Cardinal's contracts for months now. They end up sending out $32M over 2 years to Minn, but take on $50M over 3 years for Jaric and Antoine Walker. How Antoine Walker is due $30M over the next three years is just mind blowing.

In Memphis Mayo can slide over and play his natural SG position. This lets Gay go to the SF position, his natural position. Provided they keep these guys along with Conley, that is a scary group running around the perimeter. Memphis also added Arthur. They are looking good in rebuilding mode right now.

Terrible trade for Minny. Love is not the complement they needed to give Al Jefferson, and Miller will be traded by the trade deadline next season, if not sometime this off-season.
